Former Miami WR Jacolby George is signing with the #Panthers on a deal that includes $215,000 guaranteed, per source. That's a larger guarantee than he would've received if drafted in the sixth round.

With these and the signing of Hunter Renfrow, we are sitting at like 97 players. Look for some movement of guys on the roster over the next 48 hours. Cuts, trades, etc.

DO YOU KNOW when they have to be down to 90?  On Google AI I asked, and it replied, "Teams have until the end of the final week of the preseason (in 2024, this is August 27th) to trim their rosters to the 90-player limit. The signing period for UDFAs begins immediately after the draft, but the full roster reduction to 90 is not due until after training camp and the preseason games."  (That did not sound right to me...)

If I remember correctly, last offseason or possibly the one before, they changed the cutdown rules and instead of gradual steps, you just have to be to the 56 man roster until just after the last preseason game.

Same, then I decided that I'm not going to worry about that stuff anymore. They will get it sorted out by training camp. Let Dan do his thing and let's see where it goes.

I thought you could not exceed 90 unless there was a "foreign" player(which they all already signed).

Im already practicing my 'WTFs" for cutting no names players I already put in the Panthers ring of honor...

Honestly I look over the roster and only came up with 3 names Id say cut for the excess UDFA group. Im upset for the others....

    • 2022 was not a good year for QBs.
    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
