I don't think they are the same type player, I just think they both ideally are suited to be the Z.

if we were going to address O in this offense......it needed to be speed and YAC IMO.  AT is our slot king.  Which remains a limiting factor for this O.  A problem we bill as as a strength. Also,  does not having guys who can make plays out of the backfield/line of scrimmage.  I don't think Tmac really does much to change the areas on the field we need to really improve on.

this bad boy has Dirty Dan Chisena on it

They should work well together.

T-Mac: big, sideline-operating, go-up-and-get it player who threatens vertically by creating big windows at the catch point along the sideline.

XL: freak athlete, designed touch, YAC and tackle-breaking on short/intermediate routes over the middle.

XL looks like a traditional X but has the skill set of a Z: he’s not super refined but almost nobody his size moves as well as he does. He seems overqualified for his role, but that’s a good thing. The offense can generate different types of big plays now.

I was watching the reactions of different people to the pic on YouTube this morning and Mike McCarthy said that there are two types of receivers: Framers and Pluckers. Framers have to frame the ball up to catch it sbd pluckers just pluck the ball out of the air no matter where it is and TMac is obviously a plucker, which is kind of fun to watch but almost boring  because he just makes it look effortless.

What got me was there was some DB also on the show that said "DBs love Framers" .

I know people will talk about his level of competition in college vs what he will face in the pros (which can be said for any player coming into the pros from college....it's a silly argument).

But it's obvious that TMac was THE focal point of their offense. It was obvious to people watching, but also obvious to teams they were playing. Teams they faced KNEW that they were going to be going to TMac early and often and that they had to put most of their efforts into stopping him, so they did and they couldn't.

Not only could they not stop him, he made it look easy and effortless. He absolutely dominated and there is no question about that.

If you have a player, let's say a WR, that has been playing against defenders who might not be the best out there, what do you want to see them do? Struggle? Have to fight hard to keep it competitive? Or do you want him to make it look effortless and make it look like a man playing against  children?

I was/am still in shock a bit because 1) it's obvious that the biggest need we had was defense even though WR was still a huge nerd and 2) I really believed that it was going to be defense. There was no doubt in my mind that we would be going defense and there was nothing leaking out of pantherland from usual media sources or from the few remaining people/connections I had come to rely on that indicated they were seriously considering TMac.

This tells me 2 things.

1) they are doing better about keeping their intentions quiet and misleading the NFL community (this is good)

2) they went by their board exclusively and didn't draft based on need, but by BPA using their own standards and metrics and weren't swayed by what all the draft pundits were saying (this also is good).

I will get more comfortable with the pick, and so will 99% of the rest of you. For the remainder 1%....they just need to eat more fiber.

We must be on the same schedule, because I just finished watching that clip myself.

When McCarthy made that reference, I immediately thought of XL as a framer.

Tet is a clear #1

Based off what besides his hands and being force fed the ball?

Keep in mind when you say he is a clear number 1 that means that he will have no issues beating the elite DBs in the pros.

you trying to disrespect my guy Dan The Dawg Chisena?

I actually had to google my guy, but did you know in his 3 spectacular catches....he managed to run a higher yards per reception than XL, Mingo, and every TE on the roster.

I would never disrespect the fastest man on the team. We're gonna need that 4.32sec 40yd time when he's rocketing downfield as the gunner on ST and coming in to secure the postseason with a 300yd receiving game! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

This is our grade or the draft from NFL.com hopefully we will prove them wrong

Grade
C

Round 1 (No. 8): WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona

Analysis:

  • McMillan joins last year's first-round pick, Xavier Legette, as targets for QB Bryce Young. While McMillan isn’t the fastest receiver, he has enough speed to be a factor downfield, and his ability to make catches over defenders is outstanding. To maximize his potential, McMillan must eliminate some drops and separate from NFL corners with physicality.
  • It was surprising to see McMillan come off the board in the top 10. Carolina could have selected tight end Colston Loveland or Tyler Warren as the big target for Young. They also could have taken edge/linebacker Jalon Walker and met their receiver need later in the draft.

I'm pretty sure like 90% of top rated college WRs are being "force fed" the ball.  Especially when they are the best player on the field by a mile.  So the entire defense knows what is coming but can't stop them.  That's part of what makes them great right?

Why do you think they believe XL a wasted pick? Packers just drafted Golden and they 4 deep at WR......you need WEAPONS! As many as you can get

Because their wide receiver compliment each other. Legette and Tet do the same things well which is run go routes. Neither excel in their route running, neither excel in getting off of press, and neither can get open against man over the middle of the field.

Golden is a guy who could create 4 yards of separation off of press on any route because of his short area quickness. If you paired him with Legette and Theilen/Coker, I’d get it. Pairing three stiff receiving options with one fluid guy in Theilen just doesn’t make sense to me, at all.

and AT was about to retire after this past season.

Hubbard, XL, Tmac, Coker, Saunders.   That's not in theory what you should have for a PG distributor you dump the farm in named Bryce Young.

CMC, DJ Moore, Anderson, Curtis Samuel, etc. was the Bryce Young O build.
