Best DE in the draft...

Ok granted I'm partial for being a UNC alum, but I have to disagree with you. Newton stole a laptop then was allegedly sold by his own father to the highest bidder. Yes, Quinn was found guilty for accepting a watch, but the kid was diagnosed with a brain tumor in high school and was told he may never play football again. Despite that Quinn develped into a beast and I would love for the Panthers to draft him.

Newton bought a laptop that just happened to be stolen, never once has he be speculated to have stolen it.

As far as the 'pay-for-play' thing goes, he just takes the Butch Davis method of saying "It was just a rogue family member. I didn't know."

BTW, having a brain tumor in high school doesn't have a damn thing to do with his draft stock, so stop trying to play the sympathy card.

Quinn is a great kid. Every Tar Heel fan knows that. He made a mistake...lot's of players made mistakes, including Green, who everybody is gaga over.

Anyway, Quinn was a RS sophmore in 09 when he was tearing up the ACC and he would have been better in 2010, had he played as a junior. He can play the run and the pass equally well and his motor never stops.

Having said that, I still want Cam Newton. I'm not worried about the mistakes any of these players made, including those OSU players who will be in the draft next year.

BTW, I'm not worried about who a players agent is either. The agent works for the player, not the other way around. Peppers got what he wanted and his agent help make it happen.

So why can't people think the same of Cam Newton and bring up the lap top incident when a pro-newton thread pops up? Newton allegedly stole a lap top but Quinn is actually guilty of doing something but yet it's no big deal for some folks. No one is talking about Quinn.

The Cam hate is real thick at the huddle. That's fuged up really.

Uh, that stuff has been brought up in every single Cam Newton thread there is. Also, Quinn is guilty of taking free jewelry...he was never accused of any crimes, and he certainly isn't guilty of any crimes. In fact, the worst thing he did, according to the NCAA, is lie about it, which is ridiculous to me. He was scared, and people sometimes lie when they're scared, especially when they don't have their own lawyer to fight for them like Ramsey did.

I'm not just a homer either...I think it's ludricous the way the NCAA treated Dez Bryant too. All the kid did was lie about something that wasn't even a violation anyway, and they took his senior season away from him. To me, that's shameful on the NCAA's part...especially when they are the biggest liars of all.

Carl Carey's client, Julius Peppers, is a former defensive-end out of UNC that was the third-highest paid player in the league last year.

Why did Quinn make a mistake in choosing Carey as his agent?

Because people believe that it was the agent that somehow forced Peppers out of Carolina, instead of him doing exactly what Peppers wanted anyway.

BTW, the Panthers have never had a problem with any of Rosenhouse's clients, and there are a few on this current roster. Also, one of his employees was handing out wristbands that the agent party in Miami that got Marvin Austin in trouble, so Rosenhous is just as guilty as anybody else in that whole fiasco.

And you don't think that character concerns and the fact that he was banned from the NCAA for life would be a factor. THis is the most hypocritical thread I have read lately. He didn't even play in 2010.

No, NFL teams would love to have a Peppers 2.0 (Quinn, IMO, has more work ethic than him) and is why Texans drafted Mario Williams first pick that year when everyone though they would go with Young or Bush.

He needs to bulk up I think. He is almost the same weight as Everette Brown, but taller. A stud LT or road gradder RT in the NFL would probably destroy him, and we all see how Brown has had issues sometimes being outmatched with size.

If he can bulk up and not lose a step sure, he would be a good first round draft pick. #1 overall? No thanks. You would have to be dominant ALL the time.

I don't know what his playing time was in 2008, but he only got 2 sacks correct? I know sacks aren't everything but for someone who is suppose to be a amazing edge rusher. Peppers at UNC was anywhere between 9-15 sacks for three years straight (his lowest his JR year) and he was the closest thing to a DE being picked first overall except who? Mario Williams?

And I think there is probably a reason if the report is true that is he only lifting at the combine. A year out of football completely without staying in shape the whole year I think could make you lose your shape quick. He would have to work his ass off to be in shape for Training camp and to play a full NFL season when he hasn't done that since last year in college. Wouldn't half the board be pissed if he couldn't start every game/almost every down if we took him #1 overall?

So drafting someone who accepted gifts and previously had a brain tumor is less risky than drafting Cam Newton or Fairley because of their exaggerated character concerns?

I assume you want us to sign Maurice Clarett in free agency too?

I think Quinn showed bad judgement more so than bad character.Newton showed bad judgement and one could argue bad character regarding the cheating and laptop issue.Lets face it we are not drafting an alter boy but by the same token we do not need a player that will have off the field issues.I do not think any of us are in the position to disect if these college issues will equate to off the field issues in the NFL.What bothers me about Cam is his father and how his father may influence his son.

Quinn is head and shoulders better than Brown, and he was still just scratching the surface when he played his last college game in 09.

As far as the NCAA thing...it what other walk of life is it considered a crime to take something that somebody gives you for free. Any regular college student in the country could have done the same thing, and nobody would have batted an eye. And Quinn didn't actually lie about it, he just didn't volunteer the information. They found out because they got it off of his cell phone, which is something even the federal government couldn't have done without a warrant. The NCAA has too much power to ruin reputations, IMO.
