Cam Newton: Self-proclaimed entertainer, icon

I assume you have a PhD or 20 years of direct working experience in one or the other at the highest level? If not then neither do you by any credible standpoint.

Yes, I do. I can refer you to my dissertation. My book is entitled Quiet Desperation, and it can be purchased on Amazon or B & N. Last name is neal. Look it up. I am a college professor, former college football player, and avid fan. Your resume?

By the way, some of you interpret this as to suggest he has lofty aspirations. I wish that were the case. He is in the present tense. At this time, should he not be focused on the task ahead and not his status now? Even the Cam supporters know he is a work in progress.

Again, see Brian Bozworth nostalgia freaks. He was a hype machine. Became so entrenched in self promotion that he forgot to work at getting better. It can happen. Comments like this suggest it will happen to Cam. When you have so many red flags, is he smart enough to prevent his mouth from causing another one?

Cam is a fantastic athlete and was an entertaining college player. Unfortunately, someone who was surrounded by controversy every step of the way in college, at the 2 schools he attended and even 1 he didn't. His father gave him his values and ethics, more than likely. How can someone with that kind of public image who is truly remorseful and interested in building his character make comments about being an icon? He isn't my icon, but those of you drinking the Hype-flavored Cam-ade have made him one. There is no way JR, Hurney, or old school Rivera take this guy. They will trade down, if Cam can keep his mouth shut; if not, there will be no need.

What did he actually say. What I read was a tweet from Peter King about an interview with him. People like you are making a big deal about nothing.

Now we are not going to draft him because of a tweet from Peter King. This has gone from stupid to ridiculous. The haters are out in full force.

For the record, I wasn't a big fan of the way Clausen talked coming out of college either. I tried chalking that up to "confidence" too.

Do you even see what you are doing here? Maybe you should take some time off of posting in Newton threads. Now you are trying to infer that Newton is Clausen.

That isn't what you are stating but it is what you are trying to get people to think whether you realize it or not.

So now you're telling Mr. Scot what he's thinking?

Really?

I made no assertion that I knew about either. Asking for my resume makes me doubt that you are in fact who you say you are because you would have been intelligent enough to realize that.

Next please.

Also instead of saying I can refer you to my dissertation why didn't you just link it in the post anyway. I assume someone with you great status has the power to post things on your school's web host.

Oh wait you're full of poo.

Ok, so you feel same representing everyone else's interpretations?

That's not what I took from his comments.

Hmmm...

Hello I'm sharing my opinion just like you.

That was my opinion. You don't have to like it or agree with it. You can also try to bait me into making an ass of myself or having some sort of internet pissing contest. fug, if I'm wrong then oh well but that's how I felt about the statement and decided to comment.

And now my opinion is that you are a herp derp. I'm sure you feel likewise.

What can I say, I want my QB to have some swagger... you have to be supremely confident, bordering on arrogant, to be a successful QB in the NFL. There's so much pressure, so many haters, the only way a sane person can go out there every week and perform is if they believe they are great.

I understand the psychology of team sports very well, I also understand there is no position in team sports like QB, especially starting QB of an NFL team. QB's get all the credit and take all the blame.

I suspect Cam will come out tomorrow and clarify his comments, I seriously doubt he meant to suggest that he feels he is already an "icon" or he didn't mean to use the word "icon". I don't have any problem with Cam considering himself an entertainer.

I don't see haters here, I see practical people who know what a mistake drafting a QB first overall with so many character concerns can be. Nothing against him-he could be great. But where were you all Cam fans a month ago? He hasn't played a down since then, but only lately have you all emerged. What happened?

You all might be right. He could be great. But if you are wrong and we draft him, this franchise will pay dearly for the next 5 years. I am not interested in seeing someone who seems to break all the rules without consequence succeed. It is called character, and if you are an entertainer and an Icon, there are those of us who want to see character in our entertainer and Icons. Newton will never be my icon, I promise you that.

Again don't folks get the benefit of the doubt. What did he actually say. It is nothing until it is proven to be otherwise. I think that he didn't say he was an icon simply that he wanted to be one one day. Prove otherwise.

They can't they will just try to push some petty agenda on this message board like it matters.
