Cam Newton: Self-proclaimed entertainer, icon

Fory Six & 2 was just trolling. He even left a hidden message telling you he was.

Cam Newton is an icon at Auburn Mr. Scot. Did you read the context the quote is from? Do you know that he specifically meant NFL icon? Maybe he meant public speaking icon. Hell if I know.

Also it is a fine goal to have. Many people dream of being an NFL icon. Which is what I'm going to assume he is referring to. His aspiration is to be an icon. The quote has no context and is quite likely to be from him stating he wants to be an icon not that he is an icon.

Also, he doesn't have to take a single snap in the NFL to actually be a college football icon. He won the Heismann. He is in fact an icon.

I don't care about the arrogance. I care about the underlying assumption, something that Warren Moon and the Cowboys former scouting guru (Name?) hinted at. THe assumption is that he is great and it is time to be paid. The reference suggested nothing about paying dues, working hard, overcoming his image, or mechanical problems. The guy has a huge task before he becomes an NFL icon and you don't entertain from the bench. If you see nothing wrong with this comment then you don't know psychology or team sports.

Lots of guys are icons at their college. Colt Brennan was an icon at Hawaii, and his coach (June Jones) promised everyone that brennan's skills would actually translate to the pros, unlike his predecessor Timmy Chang.

For the record, I wasn't a big fan of the way Clausen talked coming out of college either. I tried chalking that up to "confidence" too.

I don't see anything wrong with this and I do have the degrees and 20 years of experience to claim expert status.

By the way, some of you interpret this as to suggest he has lofty aspirations. I wish that were the case. He is in the present tense. At this time, should he not be focused on the task ahead and not his status now? Even the Cam supporters know he is a work in progress.

Again, see Brian Bozworth nostalgia freaks. He was a hype machine. Became so entrenched in self promotion that he forgot to work at getting better. It can happen. Comments like this suggest it will happen to Cam. When you have so many red flags, is he smart enough to prevent his mouth from causing another one?

Cam is a fantastic athlete and was an entertaining college player. Unfortunately, someone who was surrounded by controversy every step of the way in college, at the 2 schools he attended and even 1 he didn't. His father gave him his values and ethics, more than likely. How can someone with that kind of public image who is truly remorseful and interested in building his character make comments about being an icon? He isn't my icon, but those of you drinking the Hype-flavored Cam-ade have made him one. There is no way JR, Hurney, or old school Rivera take this guy. They will trade down, if Cam can keep his mouth shut; if not, there will be no need.

Your statement was that Cam Newton is not an icon. That has been refuted. Accept that rather than deflect it.

Your bias has made me not like your posts at all lately which sucks because I used to come to the Huddle specifically to read what you had to say. It's not that I mind that we disagree on something it is much more that it seems to me like you have let your bias degrade your usual stellar posting and analysis into petty agenda pushing and tearing down this kid from Auburn.
