For the record, find ONE instance where I said we should or shouldn't draft him. Just thought Id put that out there. And don't think for one second fans are the only people that didn't care for the comments. It has nothing to do with being cynical. Some people just think you should play one game in the NFL before talk about being an icon. Of course he has high aspirations or else he wouldn't even enter the draft.

Didn't I read that he already signed the biggest endorsement contract ever from underarmor. Seems they see him as an icon as well.

Correct. And while many people think he was surely guilty (including myself), he gets the benefit of the doubt. Problem for him is that he couldn't get a job afterwards. A measure of sweet justice in the end. Newton will be asked about everything and if they question his character he won't get drafted here which is penalty enough. If they still draft him, then they are willing to go beyond it. I would hope that other folks do as well.

As for paying, Underarmor just gave him a huge endorsement contract so apparently they aren't very worried about his past.

Not sure that he said he was an NFL icon. Haven't seen the actual quote or the context yet just what Peter King tweeted about the interview
