"If it were up to me to fix the QB spot, I would..."

Sit down with Cam Newton and test his football IQ with some scheme talk, film etc. Do all the homework you can on him and take him if you deem him smart enough.

If not, resign just resign Moore, maybe someone like Volek and actually give those guys a chance this with an actual scheme.

I set with him yesterday and gave him the test but he stole my laptop and threw it out the window:cool:

I do not get it. Many of you are suggesting that we take a QB after the first and groom him for a couple years on the bench. Hmmm....

Some are also cutting Pike. Not so fast, people. What if he is being groomed? Why not groom Clausen?

The fact that every QB on our roster, all of whom experienced success in the NFL or were rated rather highly by some experts, did not succeed is telling.

I read an article about Scherer and some crap he was doing with timing routes. Teaching the QBs to lollipop a soft pass into a vacant area and allowing the WR to adjust and run under it. A timing route, without timing. He first implemented it under Jake, but I saw it again when Moore tried it on goalline fade routes and was intercepted. Later, he abandonded this premise. I saw evidence of this technique from Clausen, and Pike was doing it when he played. Scherer eventually apologized for it.

I am not certain this was the case, but it seems to match early problems I saw with Clausen and Pike.

Learning QB or any position in the NFL is overwhelming. Imagine how difficult it is when the coaches change things midstream. That happened all season long. Scherer changed his strategy, Davidson decided to simplify after losing three games under Clausen. Duh. Your offense was designed around Jake--that is why they held on to him for so long--and you think a rookie can run it? If you were a careful observer, you remember offensive sets where all the WRs were bunched into wing and tight formations. The defense responded by sending CBs and safeties off the edge. We could not block them. This continued for 2 -3 games. Game announcers were questioning the formations Davidson used, like the "I" on third and 12.

About Pike. He missed most of OTAs. I had a chance to speak to him after his second OTA, one of the last. He was overwhelmed. He seemed to appreciate the fact that someone else sympathized with him about it. He said that this offense was totally new and very complex. Compared to Cincinnati, probably true. He also said the speed of the game is tough, and admitted that he had no "chemistry" with the WRs.

So many of you are ready to throw out our QBs who were neglected and confused by lame-duck coaches who were grasping at straws. If you know football, you should have seen that Davidson was overmatched every week (gameplan). Throw in rookies WRs (Jarrett bust hurt) and 60% of the line injured, and put rookies under center. And in moments of infinite wisdom, many of you suggest cutting these "busts" and drafting a QB late in the draft.

I have to think that the panthers are evaluating JC now and how well he fits Chud's system. They are determining if he and Pike have potential here. If Chud and Shula feel comfortable in their abilities to develop these two, we are not drafting a QB at any time unless that QB is a certain upgrade.

Fox did JC no favors. Give Pike a year or two to get stronger, and he may become a career NFL backup--a Frank Reicht type, which would be great. I just do not see the justification of taking a player at a position that takes time to develop under NORMAL conditions and trashing him after a year--especally if you propose drafting a 4th rounder, bringing in 2 veterans, etc. etc. etc.

Pick up a vet, let Moore walk and keep Pike. If there's a decent prospect out the there with value in the draft NOT FIRST ROUND, possibly take a shot there. My dpeth chart to start the season would be: Clausen, vet, Pike and potential rookie. If Clausen struggles more than the first three games out, bench him and let the vet start.

Also, lol at the people wanting to tank '11 just to get Luck.

I'm not willing to tank another season for a prospect that essentially gave us the shaft. Gabbert and Newton are both plenty talented if they can get some good coaching. They are both going to be stars...

Pike - goes to practice squad (doesn't fit).

Clausen - like Pike, he doesn't fit here but I would move him to 3rd or 2nd

Draft Cam. Bring in a vet to mentor Cam. Cam has the physical tools. Needs a real vet to be in his ear 24/7.

Start vet the first 1/4 or 1/2 of the season and turn it over to Cam.

Draft Cam Newton

Keep Clausen because we will def not get a 3rd or 4th round pick for him

Sign a vet or Matt Moore

This but stay away from Billy Volek. (Though if the staff does bring him in, I would trust their decision but wouldn't like it until he showed his worth)

Hi Panthers fans. Saints fan here. I COME IN PEACE.

It's the off season and we all are armchair GM's for the time being. Here is what I would do to no only fix the QB issues, but to instantly make this team better (obviously depending on how good a coach Riviera will be). Suprisingly, Carolina doesnt need a whole lot. A few pieces here and there can make this team competitive again. The front office just have to be proactive and willing to spend a little dough. Here is what I would do:

Trade 1st over all to Arizona for their #5, #37, and #69 and future 2nd rounder.

Trade Steve Smith and a future 2nd for New Engands #28

with #5 pick I get AJ Green or Julio Jones

With #28 Best D-Lineman available

With #37 Trade to Philly for Kevin Kolb or use pick for QB Colin Capernick (who I feel could possibly be better than Cam Newton)

with #65 draft TE DJ Williams or best TE available

with #69 draft best DB available

Free Agency:

FS OJ Atogwe or maybe Bob Sanders

DT Shuan Rogers or DE Ray Edwards

WR/PR Brad Smith

RB Pierre Thomas or try to resign D. Williams

My problem with this is If you draft Cam i feel Jimmy should be gone. I don't like a QB rotation of Cam, Jimmy and Moore because you still have too depend on Moore and Jimmy being good and both still don't have great game exp.

Plus with Cam their is your face of the franchise their is no need too keep 2 young QB's. I rather a Mark Bluger and Matt Moore with Cam and maybe trading Jimmy for a 3rd or 4th round pick.
