"If it were up to me to fix the QB spot, I would..."

Resign Matt Moore. Bring in a veteran maybe Volek. Let a fair competition take place. Also look into Palmer and see if he's still got something in the tank.

That's pretty much my take.

I'm not the world's biggest Carson Palmer fan, but if the Newton hype picks up to the point where the Bengals would trade Palmer in exchange for swapping spots, I'd take that offer.

Objectively speaking, for all his flaws, most veteran placeholders aren't the quality of a Carson Palmer.

I'm setting the CBA thing aside for the sake of discussion. All normal options are open.

In that case, I'd take a hard look at Kolb & Orton but IMO they don't have a level as high as even Schaub & pass. Flynn reminds me of Moore a lil so pass on him too. Ultimately I'd probably try & snag Palmer, McNabb or Volek. Then I would evaluate the combine closely & see if the heir apparent is in the 1st rd & take him & let him get tutored by one of the vets along with Clausen. If nobody impresses me than I say the hell with it & wait to draft someone next year.

Yea same here pretty much. I also expect Clausen to grow a bit during the offseason. As crappy as he looked I know he is competitive and I can at least respect that.

Moore needs to be given another chance. As stated many times before he was only the QB that managed to get something going in our craptacular offense. He was touted as the veteran last season which is complete bogus. Moore still has room to grow and learn just as Jimmy does. I just don't think he has reached his peak yet. Whether his ceiling is high or low, may be worth finding out.

what i wouldn't do is try to force it now with a #1 pick that isn't worth it and then be stuck with a lousy quarterback for several years because i can't draft or sign another one.

i would sign a decent vet who can manage the team until a franchise qb is available at some point down the road, and try to have all the pieces together for when that guy falls into place.

Trade the third we should get for Peppers to Denver for Orton. They want a second for him. Most everyone says they will not get that. He has one year left with Denver and we'll have to pay him around 7-8 million. Let him start, sign Moore to back him up, and Jimmy can be third string. When 2012 rolls around, either sign Orton long term if he performs well, or let him walk if he does not and go back to the drawing board once again. The only problem is that he will not suck enough to get us Andrew Luck in 2012.
