The "draft and groom future QB, sign a vet to start for 2 yrs" plan

the only one I would even consider on your list is gradkowski.

Fine with me.

If you are guys are arguing that we shouldn't pick up a vet then our QB lineup would look like this at best

Newton

Clausen

Moore

Pike/Edwards

And this at worst

Clausen

Moore

3rd round project

Moore/Pike/Edwards

That's not rebuilding that's just sucking unless we do sign Newton and he is the next superstar.

With a bunch of money under the cap and newton under a rookie cap, then we better be fixing every other hole we have with studs to sniff .500

name a vet that would be a legitimate starter in this league right now?

Hard to know who will be available and at what price but I think some of them could come in and play for a season or two. Guys like:

Dennis Dixon

Tyler Thigpen

Gradkowski

Trent Edwards

Would all be upgrades to Clausen at this point. All these guys have started and played decently in the past. Assuming that Shula is good at getting the best out of guys who have struggled, then even a guy like Trent Edwards would be worth looking at.

Why not Bulger? He has the best record stats and experience of any FA.

Adam Schefter has written that the Cardinals have had conversations with Larry Fitzgerald about the team's quarterback situation. We know that one of the issues that must be resolved for the Cardinals to be able to sign Fitzgerald to a contract extension is that of who will be throwing him the ball. Fitz has made it very clear that what he wants to do more than anything is win. He wants to come back to the Cardinals, but he also wants it to be a situation in which he believes they will be a playoff team and have the talent to make it back to the Super Bowl. He also wants to be paid, as he well deserves.

Without knowing exactly the context of these conversations with Fitzgerald, it is interesting that his thoughts were right in line with what pretty much the team would prefer and what fans are hoping. His first recommendation was Philadelphia's Kevin Kolb and he also brought up soon-to-be free agent Marc Bulger.

Kolb would be interesting as well.

Both have played in WCO systems not a vertical passing system. Most of the time guys from the WCO don't flourish in other systems. Look at McNabb last year for example.

Bulger's numbers have really dropped off after 2006. HIs passer rating in 2006 was a 93, since then it has hovered in the very low 70s.

Clausen is a WCO QB. He was in college......and that looks to be his only hope in the pros.

Carolina's biggest issue is they have 2 young QBs.....and that is it. Neither one fit what Fox did and neither fit what Rivera claims to be about. It isn't so much about Jimmy being garbage but about him not fitting.

Cincy drafted Carson Palmer #1 overall and sat him for Jon Kitna who had a great year. Palmer went on to throw for over 4,000 yds 3 times....It can work...
kitna had been there a couple years. they had their starter already entrenched into the role. that isn't our situation. we're talking about going out and finding a vet stop gap. kitna had ben in the league a few years and had some success. they weren't going with him being a stop gap solution. his first season with them he threw 12 TDs and 22 INTs, the next year he only won 2 games. they knew they were going to be needing a QB so they drafted one in the best round for drafting a franchise QB.
