I now 100% endorse Cam Newton for the #1 pick

He has maybe more upside than anyone in the draft, but at the same time he's really raw and is considered by basically everyone to be a huge risk.

If he flops that screws you over in several ways, #1 overall pick down the toilet, missing out on other elite talents, paying out a huge contract with nothing to show for it. Maybe worse of all is that no matter how bad he looks year 1 you're automatically going to pass on a really good looking 2012 QB class if you invest such a high pick in him.

I wouldn't totally be against taking him or anything but if they do go with him they need to scout him in every possible way, put him through every test imaginable and be pretty confident he's going to work out. Not sure I really trust Hurney's judgment on this either.

It would be no different then drafting any other player this year at #1. No one has proved that there worth the first pick.

Great reason for drafting him

I think he has a greater desire than most to win. He has clearly put a team on his shoulders and taken them to the promised land against the best players in college football. HE is a top 10 QB in the draft not a second rounder. We as a team are long overdue a first round QB, a chance to be great. I'll take that chance every time, while others may explain away another opportunity. Half the people in Charlotte were happy that we traded Kobe for Vlade.

Those are great reasons, but him being the most famous isn't a good reason.

I don't get that feeling from Cam at all. Fairley, yea. Not Cam so much, he seems genuinely enamored with the game.

How long until his life turns into a gangster rap song??

I just get vibes from him and Fairley that once their bank account goes up, their skill and effort will go down.

Chooo Choooo!!!

I can't wait.

If they don't pick him at least 30-40% of fans would be a bit disappointed IMO, that can't be said about any other of the front runners. The Panthers are going to be all up in his business. Unlike anyone else in this class, they can get their notes from the NCAA.

If our front office EVER made the #1 pick based on what the fans thought, they should be taken out and shot.

You can go back through history of the NFL and find can't misses that missed and Not a chance QB become Hall of Famers. Of course the Heath Shuler's and Ryan Leafs being the can't miss and missed badly.

My Hero was a 9th round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Listed at 6' 1" and 194lb. Hardly someone you would consider an NFL QB. Before he retired in 1973 he virtually owned just about every NFL record there was. The Great Johnny Unitas was cut by the Steelers and never given a chance until the Colt brought him to Baltimore in 1956. His 1st pass was a Pick 6 but by 1958 he lead the Colts to the Championship in the "Greatest Game Every Played"

My point is, we can sit here and scream bust or superstar but unless you have the balls to pull the plug the only thing we will ever do is "I told you, so".

The guy is talented, he has a gun for an arm. I believe he can be taught the position and is worth taking a shot with him. Like I said in an earlier post. Worst thing happens we convert him to a TE or WR.

As long as Cam shows that he has the work ethic to learn and execute an NFL offense I'm convinced he can be a good QB. He sure as hell has the physical tools. If our scouting department interviews the hell out of him and determines that he can be our QB then I will fully support picking him with the #1 pick.
