He put Ryan Leaf in there because everyone else who keeps comparing cam to Russell has been accused of being narrow-minded and only comparing Newton to Russell because they're both black QBs.

So basically he threw one white QB in there with Young and Russell so he could say, "Here's a white guy! See!"

Still have my same questions about the things that I did not see newton do in college....but more because he was not asked to do them.

If the FO believes that he has the ability and intangibles to read defenses at the LOS.....go through his progressions....etc. Then, I am all for taking him #1.

I really don't understand the Jamarcus Russell comparisons beyond the fact that they both played in the SEC, both wore # 2 and both won national titles.

Russell ALWAYS struggled with staying in shape, which pointed to major problems with his work ethic.

Cam Newton has NEVER had a problem staying in shape, he's a physical specimen, which to me says the kid is willing to put the work in.

I don't think they should be Compared at all Jamarcus by all scouting services was a better prospect and more ready too start then Cam. Totaly different playing stlye. Russell was more of a passer then Cam. Russell was hyped up more then Cam.

Agreed and the The Golden Calf of Bristol comparisons aren't legitimate either, Cam is a much better passer than The Golden Calf of Bristol.

Check out Google images for both JaMarcus Russell and Cam Newton. JaMarcus looks like a tub of lard on the field with his gut hanging over his pants in basically every picture. Now look at Cam Newton. Slight difference. Cam Newton has that Peppers/Hercules look.
