Want ot wait till after the first round to get a QB??

It's not so much the fact that people are discussing him because he's very interesting, but the whole idea that anything not 100% positive about him that is said is considered blasphemy is ridiculous. Those people saying "he's debunked" everything negative about him before the combine even starts? Because some media workout? Come on.

Other people are discussing Cam in a great way, talking about pros and cons, even the Cam nuthuggers can sometimes see how there could be a negative about him and admit that it will be explored, which is fine, but then others only want great things said about him and it's silly.

didn't read it.

So people need to allow positive remarks and opinions about Newton, but no one is allowed to speak against him? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Petty? Newton's character concerns are on everyone's radar, his background will be checked very thoroughly- it's a concern for everyone, that's why it's constantly brought up and not just by me.

There's nothing pety about his pattern of behavior. If it was one incident that would be petty, but he showing a penchant for making bad decisions off the field.

I didn't bait KT, didn't need to. He's always ready to travel that road and the pavement came out from under him.

I'd like to know is there anything you like about Newton? You have only posted his downfalls what about his upsides?

if the only issues are 12 speeding tickets in 2 years (3 years ago), 3 years ago buying a laptop that happened to be stolen (did he know before hand? if not, then a non-issue), and 3 years ago taking an unethical shortcut writing papers (just means he wasn't a great or commited student, has no bearing at all on his ability to play the game), and some allegations of getting paid to play that were never proved to be true, then there is no reason to not draft him.

anyone who makes a big deal about them is being petty if there has been no oether instances of him getting in trouble and there is nothing to be proven about the paid to play allegations (if there were something to it, they would have found it by now as heavily investigated as it was). those who use that as the main reason for not drafting him (or wanting him drafted) are just looking for a reason to not draft him and they are grasping at straws.

the team that selects him in spite of his youthful indiscretions (which really aren't that big a deal), but who thinks that his talent and skill set are worth picking will be benefiting in a huge way... much in the same way the eagles did with vick, only with a much bigger long term payout.

It took them 5 years to find out about Bush, so that's false in bold.

If we could get Cam for cheaper than 30-50mil, more people would be on board. Since you brought on the Vick example, if Philly had to shell out 30mil guaranteed, do you think they would? Of course not.

Again, if the FO feels that he is not a bad person and has the tools to make it in the NFL (physically and mentally), they will select him.

That's why we don't take one this year at all.

I want to wait...until next season.

Said the same thing in another thread. When you go to the store to buy a fantastic TV you saw online, and that TV isn't there but a lesser model is, it's pretty easy to talk yourself into the idea that the other model is just as good because you really wanted that TV right now, but the truth is that it really isn't. That's what I see a lot of fans doing right now.

The smart thing to do is to wait till the better version - or one with all the same features - is back in stock.

2003

ROUND 3: Dave Ragone, Texans (88); Chris Simms, Buccaneers (97)

ROUND 4: Seneca Wallace, Seahawks (110)

ROUND 5: Brian St. Pierre, Steelers (163)

ROUND 6: Drew Henson, Texans (192); Brooks Bollinger, Jets (200); Kliff Kingsbury, Patriots (201)

ROUND 7: Gibran Hamdan, Redskins (232); Ken Dorsey, 49ers (241).

He may not have panned out, but damn he gave me a memory I'm going to remember for a long time. That was one hell of an exciting play.

What if it is not necessarily a lesser model. Just a different model. As a matter of fact what if it is cutting edge and could redefine the way you watch television. But you aren't sure.

Do you wait to buy the regular old tv (even though it may be discontinued and not ever be available again) because you think it is the safe pick. Or do you get the TV that could revolutionize the way you watch TV but isn't what you are accustomed to??

I don't think you go after a franchise quarterback in rounds after the first... but if you think that there's a guy that is a solid upgrade over one of the players you have, might as well take him. The team has a lot of holes, but depending on how far a quarterback falls, it might be worth replacing Pike with them

Thanks for illustrating exactly the kind of rationalization I was describing

I've heard the "changing the game" argument since Randall Cunningham. It has yet to happen. And Newton isn't a once in a lifetime prospect. He's just the next athletic, one-read-and-run project to come along. But he's being overrated by a lot of folks here because they want to fix the quarterback spot right now rather than waiting a year.

Not good judgment.

Good thing I'm not one of those guys. I don't want him to start next year at all if he doesn't have to.

The one read and run stigma is false and has been debunked time and time again. It isn't true. The offense is not one read or run offense (although there are some plays built in to do just that). When passing plays were called he rarely bailed on the play. He stayed in the pocket and weent through his progressions.

Randall Cunningham is Can Newton's basement. His ceiling can't be compared to anyone bc there hasn't been a player like him at the QB position.

There was Randall Cunningham, then Mike Vick has taken it a step further, and Cam Newton could be Mike Vick 2.0.

    • Yeah, I am not sure about that. Bryce showed flashes of being the "super processor" I personally thought he was in the home stretch last season but I can't swear his ceiling is appreciably higher. I fuging hope so. fug my evaluation, we just deserve it as a franchise after all this BS we have delt with. I hope you are correct.
