If a player is interested in leaving or putting themselves in a situation to be bid over they aren't going to re sign early anyway.

not true,if you are looking for stability or a contract with some years included.i really felt like it might would be easier to sign during the year instead of after especially this past year.

If they are as savvy as you say they are then they would have budget estimates for all scenarios. I mean this is why they are billionaires...

Even if they do, they still don't know which one. They still have to pick one.

Not really, bonus money does not have to be paid in the event of a lockout.

it's also very possible that "guaranteed money" may not exist when the CBA is finished.

Teams are making cuts and resigning players. Teams signed players last offseason, the Jets, Ravens, and Bears really mortgaged their future last year...all the way to the playoffs. If we were even close to being near some ficticious cap (which we aren't) then I think erring on the side of caution would be prudent.

All teams aren't doing this, some are though, and I wish we were one, but its sadly we aren't.
