Hypothetical trade scenario

It's funny how non Cam Newton fans can make sense out of other teams falling in love with Cam and doing whatever it takes to trade up and get him, but can't make sense out of us falling in love with Cam and taking him with the number 1 pick. And on top of that the Panthers need a QB worse than any other team in the league.

We drafted Clausen and they will give him a shot first. Rivera is not Gruden, drafting a QB every year. You have to assume that we need another rookie QB to validate your argument. We need better QB play. Fix the variables, and you could fix the QB play problem.

Let's not ignore the character issue. Newton has multiple red flags that the Panthers will not ignore. There are teams who will overlook the character issues. We probably will not. Do you think the Bengals have the same standards concerning character as we do?

The fact that we drafted a QB last year with our first pick has a lot to do with it. He is still in their long term plans. (This is where you say, "But we were going to take Luck.") Cam Newton is not necessarily an upgrade over Clausen--as big a risk at 10x the cost. Cam Newton is no Andrew Luck.

My plan was to rip your argument apart but after reading this "Cam Newton is not necessarily an upgrade over Clausen" I figured there's no point.

1st.... a number one overall has NEVER been traded for LESS then this. Look it up. you can say all you want that nobody would do this... you might be right, but we should DEFINITELY not take any less or we would be GIVING away the number one. look up the San diego/Arizona trade for get leaf (and san diego was only moving from 3rd to 2nd that year). the San diego/Atlanta trade for vick. the Sand diego/Giants trade for manning/rivers. (hmmm... clearly san diego has a thing for trading around the top). EVERY single one of these scenarios the #1 went for more than what was just laid out. That being said, every time the team that traded down made out like a bandit. Newton might turn out great... but I'd much rather jump of the newton train and get some more picks.

2nd.... here's what I LOVE about this pick. We have a lot of young talent on this team. no matter WHO the quarterback is, Rivera is going to make this a six win team. I don't like newton, but this is our ONE window of opportunity at the top. we have too much talent to end up in this same position next year. SOOOOO... if we can somehow snag next years #1 from Buffalo/Cincinatti (Maybe AZ too) We'd probably be drafting in the top three next year. which means we are able to to give clausen a shot... and then draft either luck or barkley next year. win win.

hypothetically i just crapped my pants but it doesn't matter because my pants were hypothetical too so the poo just ended up on the floor. however, the floor could potentially be a hypothetical floor, in which case my poo would hyopthetically drop to the depths of the earth and become fertilizer. in this hypothetical event my poo-based fertilizer would give rise to new foliage and oxygen-producing plants. this hypothetical oxygen would then replace the actual oxygen that is consumed when discussing hypotheticals.
