So Jerry Richardson...

So JR should have fired Fox, so that he had to pay him and a new coach at the same time? Somebody with an MBA needs to explain how that would have made more sense.

So let me ask the question again.

You are/were perfectly content with JR admittedly keeping Fox on as a lame duck because he didn't want to go with a new coaching staff on the sole basis of money? Those millions are a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of a team budget.

If he can't afford to pay him and another coach he should sell the team. A new coaching staff last year coinciding with our youth movement would have been beneficial going into a possible lock out. Hiring a new coaching staff with no one to coach is Brilliant!

Whether he could afford it or not, is beside the point. This whole thread is about JR wasting your money, no? So why would you want him to waste even more of it?

Anyway, it's not like we would have gone to the Super Bowl last year if the team had kept Delhomme, Hoover, Moose and Kemo. They knew it was time to start rebuilding the team, and that's what they did. Hopefully, all of those young guys learned a lot last year and will be much better in 2011. I'm pretty sure that was the plan, as opposed to purposely going 2-14 just to piss everybody off.

What gives me the "moral high ground" as you put it is I'm not making any judgments until I have considerably more info to base them off of. And Im certainly not calling a mans character into question without having first hand knowledge of why he has done the things he has done.

Ripping off his fans? seriously?

How much more info would you like? What would you call 2010? Would you say that was worth the money PSL owners paid? And what about 2011? Are you okay with the fact that the owner of the team you support is the most fervent advocate of not having a season?

Hmmm

I missed where JR admitted he kept Fox on solely for the sake of money. Can you source that for me?

Asked why he didn't fire Fox before the season, Richardson pointed to the $11.4 million that Fox and his staff were due – the 5th-highest salary pool in the league, he said – and indicated he didn't want to pay two coaching staffs.

Ok, from a purely business perspective. Run your numbers with firing Fox a year earlier, and run them with keeping him on. Your assumption is probably that with Fox and a competent offense you're looking at 7-8 wins. Granted, that turned out to be wrong, but given his history that would have been a fair assumption to make.

So you run all of them, and it turns out that all firing Fox does is cost you another $10 million in salaries for an entire coaching staff for an extra year. I don't care if you're Bill Gates, that $10 million is a lot of money, and could also mean the difference in keeping x amount of staff in other areas of football operations. Who knows? So, you keep Fox.

Now run the numbers on what he's doing. He's got a captive audience (PSL Owners), an increasingly valuable product, and more leverage than the players. He has high stakes, but so do they. And arguably their stakes are much higher. That makes his negotiating strategy obvious--he can work for a win/win but when it gets tough he will probably turn into a steamroller. And his assumptions are probably based on the numbers of 2009 and 2010, I have no clue what they are. But you can bet that his finance guys have run the numbers both ways for the Owners, and he's doing what makes the most sense for them.

Did you listen to the JR press conference?

If not...here's a question for you.

JR specifically stated in the press conference that he'd told Fox that they were going to go young and that they didn't meet eye to eye on couple of certain issues regarding youth. (my thought) No doubt Fox was major part of keeping Jake on longer than needed to be.(end) JR reiterated this during the press conference by making the point of saying they didn't agree on the change of direction.

JR's then asked why he chose to not get a new coach...cheap. JR gave a lecture on how much they would have had to pay Fox to leave...on top of the money for a new coach.

Now...tell me in your opinion why John Fox was kept around last year.

Hey bud this isn't the tinderbox. I was just asking you to source what you said so that I could be certain that what you said was accurate. Thankfully HP did it already.

My opinion on why he was kept around doesn't matter. We know the reason and in my hangover haze I forgot something. So please forgive me for having the audacity to quote and address a question toward you. If you are going to respond to me in such a way I'd prefer if you just ignored me.

This is all pointless. Most people have made up their minds about JR and it's not going to change, regardless of how many currently unknown facts and details about these negotiations come out in the future. He's just a big ole meanie head for no reason whatsoever, apparently.

I'm done with this. Wake me up when the combine starts.

Fine, keep Fox. But don't slash the roster down to nothing, raise ticket prices and roll out a team that in all likelihood would have been 0-16 had we not faced John Skelton and David Carr and then tell us you're in favor of locking out the 2011 season because you're not making as much money as you would like.

This.

The recent stories of JR being a prick just compounds my pissedoffedness at him because you just know he did this in preparation to carry out his personal vendetta against the NFLPA. He's got his money. He got out cheap in the coaches situation with just keeping Fox and showing no intention to putting good product on the field.

It's borderline class action suit from the PSL owners if I were an ambulance-chasing lawyer-loving type. ;)

Sorry...short trigger. Operated on the assumption everyone saw the press conference.
