Clausen poised for improvement?

Dude runs the same 40 as LT at 50 more lbs. To try to convince yourself that will not be a advantage is just being stubborn.

The advantage will be in his ability to extend plays and pick up yardage when nothing is available downfield, not in being some kind of running quarterback. If he runs like he did in college, he will get injured.

edit: Where are people getting that Cam runs under a 4.4 40? I've heard it was higher than that.

I agree he won't be able to run 20 times a game like he did this season. but he isn't your average, frail, 6'5 190 pounds QB. He will be a lot more durable than many QB's just bc of his body type.

Having said that I hope he is a scrambler and selective runner. If he is thrown into the mix right away you may see him run more but as he gets more comfortable with the offense and the defenses he will progress. One of the reasons I hope Clausen starts next season. At least the first half of it.

No one is expecting him too but still just like Aaron Rogers and Rapistburger they can pick up 10 when there's an opportunity. I would not want him to go all run happy like Vick did when he was in ATL. I dont think anyone would.

Oh and if Im not mistaken LT ran a 4.4 40 so he would have to run a sub 4.4

LT ran a 4.38.

I'm finding a lot of references to Cam Newton running a 4.75 down to a 4.5, but nothing close to that.

FYI, I agree that his scrambling ability would be a huge asset... but he isn't the only one with that ability in this draft, just the one with the most of it.

Funny thing. When he ran a 4.75 that was in high school. He had to try to convince those scouts that he wasn't "just a pocket passer".

Now it is the complete opposite. He runs around 4.5 and he has for the last 3 years or so.

freeman looked nowhere near as bad as clausen.

Freeman threw like 17 interceptions in his game against us that year. He looked HORRIBLE his rookie year. Same thing for Sanchez. Sanchez had a QB rating of 63, Freeman 59 in their rookie year. That's not much better than Clausen (judging from a statistical/concrete perspective)...

Eli Manning, Ben Ruthlessbanger, Brad Johnson, Doug Williams if you wanna go back a bit. Plenty of decent but unspectacular QBs have won Super Bowls.

We have two diffrent mindsets here, but to me waiting around to catch lightning in a bottle is just as bad as drafting a bad one. Sure you can make the playoffs with a average player at the position but can you win? I can only think of one time(trent dilfer?) that the super bowl has been won with a decent qb. Even then that won't make you compete year in and year out as we've seen with jake.

What your suggesting is do the same thing the franchise has been doing since selecting kerry collins.
