Good point, Kiper's got a certain amount of professional pride invested in Jimmy - he's not going to turn right around this year and say we need a QB.

Heck, I can't even remember him granting an interview to local radio or TV in the past three years I've lived here. Rivera's appeared in multiple places in just a single month on the job.

People always assumed it was the team that wanted that secrecy, but listening to the way Richardson and Hurney talked about wanting a coach that was willing to be "the face of the franchise" I'm growing to believe it was Fox himself.

I would expect Clausen to be on the roster no matter what we do with the first pick.

The most likely scenario in my opinion is that if we draft a QB you will have Newton, Clausen, and a FA. Possibly Moore but that will likely not depend on us as much as it will Moore.

Don't expect Moore to get an offer from us for more than 1 year. Possibly at a rate that is lower than what we payed him this past season. If he is willing to do that it is very possible Moore is on the team again next year. Otherwise, they will look for someone that is willing to sign a short term contract to get another shot in the league. Think a Byron Leftwich or someone along those lines.

I don't see us trading for a QB. The reason I believe this is because if Marty Hurney goes to JR and says he wants to trade a QB and it is going to cost a future first round pick and a second round pick.

I guarantee you the first question out of JR's mouth will be, "If he is that good how come he isn't starting where he is at?" And unless Hurney can convince him that this QB is the next great QB and is just being held back it won't go very far at that price.

If there is any casualty at the QB position it will likely be Pike and not Clausen. The FO would like to at least give Clausen a chance to prove that he is a solid starter in the NFL if for no other reason than to generate some value for Clausen in the trade market. I fully expect that Clausen will be our opening day starter next year no matter who the third QB is.

And I also wanted to say that not only did Hurney say that QB was our number one need he described it as a priority! I may be parsing words here but it seems to me using that type of terminology gives it a stronger meaning than just a need. Doesn't guarantee that Cam will be our number one pick but he will likely get STRONG consideration.

Jake didn't cost multiple draft picks. And even if we picked up Volek we still will likely be looking for a long term solution. So if Volek is a free agent then it wouldn't surprise me at all if Volek and Newton were on this roster next year.

Does anyone know if he is a free agent?
