Why exactly do we think Rivera would turn to a rookie QB early to start even if they do draft one #1 over all?

That's possible as well. With that scenario, what does Clausen bring to the table though? By drafting someone we are essentially saying Clausen is done for us so why keep him around? Moore has proved to be a better than average backup QB and a good starter in the right circumstances. I don't see the value of keeping him over an old guy at this point. Bring em all to camp, may the best men and the rookie win

If Moore is recovered and if Moore can be had for a reasonable price, I would prefer him to Volek and any other FA QB I think we have a reasonable shot at (aka i don't see us having a shot at Bulger or Alex Smtih). The main reason being he seems to fit exactly what Chud likes in a quarterback.

At the same time going into last season with Moore + inexperienced backups is what cost us at the QB spot. i am not sure we would do the same thing twice. I've said all along if we don't draft a QB I think we have a good chance of bringing Moore back, but if we do, I think that likelihood diminishes... unless they really do decide Clausen doesn't fit the offense theyw ant.

We already know Moore can be a decent backup and a starter in a pinch, but can't carry a bad team on his shoulders. Nor can Clausen, and we haven't really see much at all other than him struggling, but maybe he can turn it around with a new QB coach and OC.

I dont like cutting a player we picked in the second round after 1 year. Who knows about Matt Moore yet but I would start him next year and give him one more chance. U can slurp on his nuts all u want but until the guy can prove himself by going through a season without totally falling apart im not totally convinced. I just think its the best option to see what we really have with clausen, can he be some trade bait? Does Matt Moore not work out and Cam Newton utterly fails we still have Clausen in the organization for another year to see if he can pan out. The guy isnt all that expensive.

I'd just rather have him earn his roster spot rather than it be given to him because we bought the hype last year.

fair enough. I just think last year shouldnt be the end all be all for the guy. Yes he sucks but u might need to take off the Jimmy Clausen is from my area so I know everything about him glasses and give it a wait and see approach.

I can't imagine us cutting Clausen, despite how little he showed, unless the coaches are absolutely positive he can never develop into anything... and honestly I kinda doubt they'll think that way.

we want guys with potential but we have to be careful not to go into a season with too little experience to get us through it.. tho maybe the fact Clausen started last year means that even if Moore gets injured or w/e we won't be in the same situation as last year since he'll have had a season to improve...
