Rivera says we will draft # 1 pick based on biggest need and we will use the tag

I just can't believe that people are so damn worried about Newton being a project, after what we just witnessed from JC. I guarantee you that Cam could outplay him, Matt Moore, Tony Pike, and Billy freakin Volek right now.

Seriously, how is that not obvious to everybody?

We aren't idiots, that's how.

lol It's at the back of my mind :mad2:

I also agree that this doesn't mean we'll take a QB. He could like Jimmy for all we know.

If Rivera really liked Jimmy, he would have named him the starter instead of going on and on about all the different ways of finding a QB. Jimmy stays, but only to compete with somebody else.

Fixed. See how easy that is?

That was cute.

Seriously though expecting a transitioning rookie to come in and play better in the situation our QBs were in last year is asinine. Clausen, Moore, Pike, BSP, and Null will look better in this new offense than they did last year. Going off solely last year's numbers is dumb.

We honestly don't even know if he can make 1 read. We don't know that he can't, but we don't know that he can. Let's see if he can do that before we proclaim him the best QB not on our roster

I want a QB, not a project.
every QB coming out of college is a QB.

how many franchise QBs out there are on their 2nd team (not counting rivers or eli)? how many of those weren't the result of a trade?

most likely if you are going to have a franchise QB, you have to draft them. that means you are drafting a project.

so by your not wanting to have a project as QB, you are running from the idea of trying to get a franchise QB or are hoping that one falls out of the sky from FA....or you just don't think that a franchise QB is all that big of a deal or the QB doesn't have to be anything more than a serviceable game manager (otherwise known as the john fox approach to QB picking).

true. there wasn't anything close to an endorsement of jimmy.

That's actually a really good point. +Rep for that! OK, so that makes it extremely likely that we'll pick up a QB. I can live with Cam Newton.

I don't think he is any bigger a project than any other QB that comes out.

having said that I don't expect him to start day one so it is a moot point.

The Pro system translating to quicker transition to the pros is becoming a myth. The bigger flops in recent years, Russell, Quinn, Clausen, Jason Campbell, etc. have all come from pro systems

And a lot of the guys who have made the quick transitions were from non traditional offenses

Roethlisberger, Vick, Rivers, Freeman, Flacco, Cutler, Bradford,

Newton probably hasn't taken a snap from undercenter since high school. Spread QB's with the exception of a few (i.e. Bradford) normally don't transition to the NFL. Especially in the system we would have him play in.

No thanks.

He's doing it everyday and will do it everyday up until the combine and pro days. It's not like he's learning to walk again or anything.

Besides, NFL teams are using shotgun more and more anyway. Peyton Manning took over 70% of his snaps from shotgun last year. Look it up.

neither did these guys: Roethlisberger, Vick, Rivers, Freeman, Flacco, Cutler, Bradford,

The only great QB to come out of a pro system is Matt Ryan in recent memory.
