Combine still happening? Oh and there is also a chat going on with Mike Mayock.

Can't wait for the combine. As for Mayock's analysis, I really respect his opinions. People cannot make light of the Wonderlic/interview portion of this year's combine. Remember how so many were so flippant about Vince Young's poor Wonderlic scoring and dismissed as unimportant. I think it has translated well on a lack of maturity/intelligence/work ethic on his part.

Bomani would agree with me. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=jones/060301

I believe the football IQ questions will be answered during the combine and pro days. That leaves work ethic as the only question mark, and the only way to prove that is to do it over time, so that will be a question with every player in the draft.

His interview will tell allot about that. If we dont draft him you can bet your bottom dollar that he failed there IQ test. Every person you see talk about Cam,from his teammates to his coaches all rave about his work ethic.

I think the football IQ questions are in regards to if Cam Newton is an idiot or not. Ala Jamarcus Russell or an early Mike Vick. Larger than life athletes that couldn't or didn't want to grasp the mental aspect of the game. That should be the biggest concern with Cam right now, all of that athletic talent will only get him so far. If he could take on both aspects of his game like Vick has recently done than I'd be all for drafting him.

That's what the NFL game is about now. We have to get a QB with at least top 10 potential. There is no limit to what teams like Green Bay, the Colts, Steelers, and Patriots can do offensively because their QB can run the show. If it just a guy running play action, taking calls from the sideline, and not in depth with his own playbook then there will always be limits to what the team can do.

I think most people pick on that he comes from a one read offense but yet dont give him credit for running the double and triple option out of that same system. Sometimes running option plays can be harder then reading a collage defense. Besides I really doubt there will be another JaWalrus for a while because the Raiders want pick another QB for a few year.

It was interesting that Mayock said this is one of the hardest QB classes to evaluate in about 10 years. He thinks every one of them has flaws either in their game or off the field issues. Should we even be thinking QB this year then or kick the can down the road to 2012, given the FA QB TBD?

ya sticky situation. Problem is the QB FA market is going to be horrid.

I don't think most of us or even the team brass is looking for a Drew Brees type FA, rather a 2003 Jake Delhomme (not Jake per se). In other words, I think they will be looking for a decent place holder to fall back on if Clausen doesn't develop or to mentor a new rookie from the 2012 draft. There's a few of those types available.

:) im just sick of the same old status quo. I understand taking a QB this year is a big risk but we have been a team of mediocrity for far too long.

Agreed on mediocrity, but does any of these prospects stike you as the franchise guy that can get us over the hump? I'm thinking no. If they are going to give Jimmy one more year to prove himself, a rookie this year wouldn't see the field outside of September or a rash of injuries at QB. I'm not sure what holding off one more year will hurt given the Clausen experiment hasn't ran it's course.

The thing is we will not pick in the top 10 next year. So if Clausen does not pan out we are stuck with trading again.

For sure and if we end up trading for a guy and Clausen fails then we lose picks plus have to find a new QB. Not a situation I would like to be in.

Really there is no one like Delhomme in the league as of now. All we could hope for is a stop gap player. Right now we have two options, Wait and see if Clausen develops in a year or draft a QB and see if either of them Develop. Yes you may waist a pick but it will be only one pick. Trading for a QB that might not work would cost us much more. Ask the Bears.

Doesn't mean taking a Qb at number one this year is the right thing to do.

If they ultimately decide one of the top QB prospects is worth that pick, then I'll hope that they're right.

If they don't, I'll accept that too.
