The Media has Officially Picked a Side

Why wouldn't I side with a cabal of old men using the full weight of their government endorsed monopoly (whose infrastructure is generously subsidized by public tax dollars) to try and starve a group of workers into having to accept a highly unfavorable deal?

Seriously??

Srarving the players? Highly unfavorable terms? The lowest player in the league will still make 300000 a year for 6-8 months work. No matter how it works out, they are not going to starve or be bad off. They will still share 50% of available revenue. The hyperbole is ridiculous.

Well Florio is a liberal lawyer, so it figures he would side with a union
8 times out of 10 i side with owners in most industries and in most situations, but this is one of those times i side with the union.

owners caused this problem and are the ones making it worse.

This.

However, I'll say that the only "Side" that stands to really lose here is the third "side".

The Fans.

This whole thing is absurd and both sides are to blame. The owners DO need to cave some... they need to realize they aren't going to get the pay cuts they want... but the Players Union have acted VERY irresponsibly in this too, waiting until 3 weeks before the deadline to come to the table, and going to the media repeatedly over every little comment before coming to the table, and threatening litigation almost right off the bat.

"starve a group of players"? Are you fuging kidding me.

Professional athletes are some of the most overpaid people in the world.

The owners have hundreds of millions of dollars of their personal wealth and debt invested in these teams.

The players are paid millions to play a game. These are the same players who have the skills and education to probably make no more than $50k per year in any other job.

The problem was caused when the owners accepted a majorly unfavorable CBA at the last minute.....the last time there was a negotiation.

This is just swinging the pendulum back the other way.

still, whose fault is it that they caved or agreed to that? they have no one to blame but themselves.

cards were stacked against them to an extent, but still they are ultimately responsible for getting themselves backed into the corner.

So, because they were willing to accept a bad deal before to keep football being played, they should keep that same bad deal forever? That is not logical.

The media siding with the union is nothing more than self interest. These guys make a living off slurping the players. Call them a bunch of whiny overpaid idiots and their access might dry up which means the reporter might have to get a real job. Its much safer to take the players side against the evil white owners since most of the owners don't have time for dirtbag reporters anyway. So really the media has nothing to lose by siding with the players other than what little credibility they have remaining.

So by that rationale, you shouldn't feel bad for the players for putting themselves in a position of ZERO leverage during these negotiations right?

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
