Owners come to defense of Panthers' Richardson

So it wasn't luck that he was offered to help fund a Hardees and it blew up?

I don't see Dan Morgan buying an NFL team. Richardson is lucky as hell and what makes you think players won't spurn him like he did the NFL over a couple of bucks. All these "super savvy" business men on the huddle that side with ownership make me lol

Luck, serendipity ... they certainly have their place in how things play out ... but trust me. JJR and Charlie Bradshaw are extremely savvy businessmen. Their success is due to more than dumb luck.

There probably is a generation gap between us.

I have left well-paying jobs on principle where the money wasn't actually worth much more that $250 would have been in the 1960s. The point isn't the money, it's that you don't want to work in an environment or for people who you don't trust, and that's what Richardson felt and why he left the NFL. And along the way, everyone who knows him and who does business with him feels that he has a tremendous sense of integrity, and works hard to do the right thing. The other owners certainly trust him, and most of them got their money by earning it, just like he did. This isn't a group of people who got where they are through luck (although some players certainly have had a little--would Manning be any good at 5'8"?).

So yeah, I appreciate the old man. And I think he knows more about winning and running a business than the collective wisdom of the huddle does. :)

Yeah, we definately disagree. Richardson is the one who got lucky in his business ventures, not Manning. Manning may have had some luck with the fact he hasn't been injured, but becoming a franchise player is not luck. Walking away from a championship football team with a little less than $5K in 1960 and being asked to financially back Bradshaw's Hardee's business venture that was already in place is pretty fortunate though. Not saying that Richardson didn't help turn the venture into gold, but how many times does someone give you that opportunity? How many of us could make billions if we had the right cash flow and opportunity?

Manning's height is not luck, is genetics. His skill and franchise tag were earned.

I'm assuming you're talking about me ... surprise that you're taking things to a personal level.

Did I ever say anything about being more or less of a fan?

Nope. I'm saying YOU won't be less of a fan if you happen to criticize ANY moves the team EVER makes.
