Who is the BPA of the draft?

Another thing to consider is all the talk from hurney about needing to improve the offense...it would be kinda ridiculous if we went out a picked a defensive player. We had the worst offense in the league last year, its hard to imagine not adding more talent to that side of the ball.

However, I think we all know that having a good QB good cure a lot of the problems on offense. Even if the defense improves if the offense is terrible again next year we won't improve at all.

The opening post said who is the BPA not who you think the Panthers should or will take.

Von Miller IMO is the BPA of any player in this draft. That doesn't mean he fits in with the Panthers just that he is the BPA.

I actually think a case could be made for a couple of players that aren't being talked about but their position causes them to be excluded because people (fans, media and teams) place values on positions. Personally I think the chances of Kyle Rudolph making the pro bowl at least 3 times in his career is much more likely than Newton, Fairley, Peterson or Green.

What I'm trying to point out is that just saying "Who's the BPA" isn't a good way to determine who the pick should be, especially from an organizational standpoint.

I would point out thought that in those last ten drafts where a QB has went #1 overall 8 times, the two times a QB wasn't taken that player (Williams and Long) have made multiple pro bowls. Just pointing that out.

Patrick Peterson and AJ Green are the best players available. The Auburn Boys are one year wonders who both were likely paid to play. And Bowers is not Super Mario or Pep.

I think the pick boils down to options. We have Everrette, Hardy and hopefully CJ at DE. Drafting a DE would be admitting that Brown was a mistake. Little thing i have noticed about people in decision making positions. "They don't admit mistakes readily."

Pike and Clausen were not my choices last year but they were someones. I don't see them admitting it was a mistake. Also there are options in FA. Taking on yet another project and trying to wring some kinda trade value out of Pickles or Pike is a task not many would sign up for. Cam has boom or bust written all over his forehead. We can not afford a BUST.

Fairley, Fairley, Failey. Just not a fan. DT's are hard to evaluate. I mean you watch the block shedding and amount of pressure they can generate but... for my money i feel Jarvis Jenkins and Nick's teammate Mike Blanc are capable of making a similar impact as Nick would. I continue to compare Suh and Nick. I am sure others will too. I just don't see it. SUH LITE is the best you can hope for.

So that leaves Green and Peterson. Both are the prototype at their position. Also you have to look at the options. At corner with Marshall leaving Capt would be our new number 2 guy. I am sorry i love the guy but he is a nickle. FA's corners are highly sought and expensive and the top corner prospect in years is there at number 1. Peterson, Gamble, Capt, Martin and Godfrey would give us a young and very talented secondary. A third round corner is NOT gonna have the impact PP would.

Then there is Gettis, Lafell, Smitty and AE. Not a bad WR corp at all. BUT to be truthful Smith showed a pretty terminal case of sour grapes last year. He has not just lost a step he has lost an entire dance routine. Smith was a gutsy, shifty and FAST WR. He is down to gutsy and shifty. Green has rookie of the year type talent.

Captain is NOT a nickleback. If Marshal leaves I think our only nickle quality back would be CJ Wilson and I don't think he is more than a special teamer. That said, I think Peterson is top on my list when mixing BPA and character. Green also got into a little trouble for Jersey selling didn't he? If we could trade down and get a second rounder back, I would hope we can do that and still snag Prince Amukamara or Dareus with our first pick if they drop far enough. They would be excellent value in the middle of the first.

I think we will add the offensive talent in FA. We are gonna go after top TE's and if teams want to keep them they will need to tag them. Also a veteran QB capable of starting in the league. In all honesty the options are numerous and varied. You have the high draft pick busts club of Alex Smith, Brady Quinn and Matt Lienart. You have the old man society of Chad Pennington, Marc Bulger, Todd Collins and Kerry Collins. Then there is the always the bridesmaid never the starter crew of Seneca Wallace, Drew Stanton, Kellen Clemons and Billy Volek. Lastly the we have the athletes playing QB group of Dennis Dixon, Troy Smith, and Tavaris Jackson.

ummm.... I personally wouldn't consider blow up potential a good thing... that's just me. so I gave bowers 5 points for having the best blow up potential and peterson 1 for having the least etc.

Bowers=2+3+5 or a 3.3

Peterson=1+1+4 or a 2

Fairley=5+4+3 or a 4

Green=3+2+2 or a 2.3

Newton=1+5+4 or a 3.3

Hmmm... I interpreted "blow up" to mean he does well beyond expectation. Otherwise why wouldn't it just be "bust?" And why wouldn't it be ranked in a way that I could at a glance determine what you mean.

You went from 1 being good to 1 being bad. Yeah you really thought long and hard about that system.

Also there are two categories for ranking and one for tie breaking as you stated. So your counter explanation makes little sense in regard to the post.

But really who cares?

um... just because I using a catagory as a tie breaker as well doesn't mean it can't count in the calculation. Are you just trying to argue and come up with problems, or actually discuss who's the BPA? you're right though... I didn't think long and hard about the system... that's why I posted it on an internet forum for discussion instead of submitting it to ESPN

Hmmm.... I guess my system IS WAY TOO COMPLICATED for you though. how about this one

"BPA: Peterson."

wow, isn't that an interesting post that sparks all kinds of discussion.
