Cam Newton breakdown

I thought it was a really good article, but the best part was the first two or three videos. They were what I've been looking for, pure passing videos. Nearly every video of his is roughly 3/4 full of runs. I'm not really interested in that part of his game, everyone (including him) knows that part of his game is going to be diminished in the pros. I think the kid has a great shot at being a very good NFL QB. Wish him the best. If the Panthers FO deem him worthy of #1 I'll support him, though he's still not my #1 option (still too risky, in my opinion).

Excellant article...thank you for sharing it.He is a freak of an athelete. His lack of maturity when younger is costing him coupled with comparisons of JRussell.

I can understand where doubters are coming from but I see him with more raw talent and upside than anyone in the draft.

That's how I feel at this point... and I've come a LONG way to get to that point. I'm not in love with any of the other prospects at this point, so that would make accepting him being drafted easier.

Ok, so after the article I feel a lot better about Newton as a QB... the character parts though were the biggest for me

We find the problems at University of Florida to be more damning than issues of Cecil Newton’s demanding pay-for-play from Mississippi State.

I agree with this

That infectious smile you see at the conclusion of every game is genuine. In my three decades of working in the media and in public relations, I've dealt with countless athletes and I can honestly say none compare to Cam Newton. This is a young man who readily admits his lack of judgment in the computer incident (at Florida) and who humbly asked for a second chance.”

makes me feel a little better

But Cam was out there in the rain, throwing passes on the weekend when we were at the lake. He was dragging receivers out there with him. That kind of work ethic prepared our guys to follow him."

There was a lot more about this in the article.... makes me start liking hims a litte

The Team Newton thing, along with some lingering character issues are the biggest things for me now.

Yeah, "team Newton" concerns me a little, too. More in terms of IF we pick him that they may all be in his ear telling him to hold out for more money.

But otherwise... I was for taking him before, but after reading that article and watching those videos I'm even more excited at the possibility of this guy being our QB of the future. He'd certainly bring a level of excitement to the QB position that we've never even come close to having. The sad thing is that by the time he's ready to play Steve Smith will likely be on his way out, which sucks.

Imagine those two in-sync on Sunday afternoon... :lurk5:

Yeah this article just solidified my man crush as well. I truly believe that when the smoke clears he is the number 1 pick or at least the number one QB overall.

This is the way I am starting to feel. I know there is hype, and players end up being busts... but the more I read and learn about Cam and as it relates to the state of the Panthers at the QB position... I am pretty close to being on the draft him #1 train.

I really hope the coaching staff and Hurney are seriously looking into and considering drafting him. Otherwise we are going to be having this conversation next offseason, and possibly the one after that.

Just imagine where Cam's numbers would have been if his WR's wouldn't have dropped some of those throws that hit them right in the hands.

People are complaining about him not always having perfect footwork, but how many times do you see NFL QB's have to make throws with people around their feet or in their face, and they can't step in to it? It's nice to know your QB can make a play from odd angles or with only his arm, if he has to, because he will have to in the NFL.

I admit, I joined this forum and went to the Cam Newton Character thread specifically to post the article I wrote for the Sun Sentinel. You can call that selfish if you want but the fact of the matter is I felt you guys, more than any team's fans, probably deserve to see this breakdown...for Simon and I truly feel he could and probably should go #1 overall to you guys. We're Miami Dolphins fans, we'd love for him to somehow get to us, but I don't know that it's in the cards.

But anyway thank you guys for all the kind words and if you do like the article I would ask one small favor and that is to post a comment on the blog itself. Dave Hyde is a nationally respected author and a friend of ours and allows us to do this Draft Winds series for him every year, but I'm sure there are those at the Sun Sentinel that think we shouldn't be involved, and so when the higher-ups are deciding whether to let us continue doing this (this being our 3rd year doing it), what they look at are the basics...page views and comments. We don't get any monetary benefit out of this but we would like to continue doing it because we love this stuff.
