Silas Back Next Year

Paul Silas has earned an extension from the team that will keep him under contract as coach for the 2011-2012 season. I have always liked him as a coach when he was coaching the Hornets to the playoffs. He relates to the players very well. Like this move.

The Charlotte Bobcats are finalizing a one-year contract extension with Paul Silas that will keep him as coach through the 2011-12 season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

After replacing Larry Brown on Dec. 22, Silas has gone 15-12 as Bobcats coach and beaten the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers in the past week. The Bobcats are 24-31 overall and 1½ games behind the surging Indiana Pacers for the eighth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.

It's official:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have removed the interim tag from coach Paul Silas, giving him a one-year extension that will keep him with the team at least through the 2011-12 season.

Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins announced the move in a news conference on Wednesday.

Silas took over for the fired Larry Brown on Dec. 22, inheriting a 9-19 team that was in disarray. Guard Stephen Jackson said a change was needed because "nobody wanted to play" for Brown.

The 67-year-old Silas has led the Bobcats to a 15-13 mark since. They're 1½ games behind Indiana for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Silas had been out of the NBA for five years and survived a health scare two years ago that left him with life-threatening blood clots.
