The only thing that’s going to keep (*) from being great is him. What it comes down to is you’ve got to figure out whether or not this kid wants to be the best quarterback in football. If he wants to be the best quarterback in football, he can be.

Forgot to bold this part.

This argument is stupid. His workout was SO GOOD we shouldn't draft him. Remember Jamarcus Russell. Let's wait till some one has a less impressive workout so we feel a little better. What?!?!?

Dumbest thread ever!!!

How surprising it comes from someone adamant against Cam Newton? It seems like most of the anti-Cam folk arent the sharpest tools in the shed.

I agree, and that's just as true for Andrew Luck as it is for Cam Newton. It sure does seem like Cam has to go out of his way to prove he's willing to work hard though, while people just take it for granted that Luck will work his butt off. Why is that? There is no evidence whatsover that Newton is lazy when it comes to working to be a better football player.

There is evidence Newton had been lazy in other aspects of his life (re:the cheating), but that is insufficient an explanation IMO and there is no proof he carried that same behaviors with him to Blinn or Auburn. Among some people, I think the thing is there is a perception Newton will have to work harder to bring himself to the level that Luck already is because of the offenses they were in and the amount of time they played in them (a key thing to note, imo - Luck had two years playing at Stanford, Newton had only one at Auburn really)...

That being said, I do agree there are some people who want "proof" that Newton is a hard worker... we don't know if he is, but we have no evidence he isn't, either. We won't know if Newton, Gabbert, Fairley, Peterson, or Green are hard workers until they're paid and are actually working IMO.

I think it's cute how KT stays up late at night in his basement and creates Cam Newton sigs. He makes little fig bars for him, he makes a drink for him.

Next week KT, Blackcat, and Monstercat are going to have a tea party with Cam Newtons and Cammy Cam Juice (God I felt gay just typing "Cammy Cam")

I think its cute you try to overhype a QB who crumbled the second we put expectations on him and told him he was the "man". Then you turn around and nitpick guys who are 10 times more talented, 10 times more entertaining. Next week, you're gonna tell us we need to re-sign Matt Moore to a 5 year extension and hope for the best. His arm strength and IQ are off the charts right?

wow, another op by highlandfire arguing against drafting a QB

because, you know, the prior 1500 threads he made trying to get the same point across wasn't enough

well I don't know about you but I was convinced when he pointed out how a great franchise quarterback lost the Superbowl.

LOL, I will have a party when the Panthers draft Cam Newton. And there is a much better chance of that happening than you think.

I mean seriously, Cam Newton vs MM, Pickles and Jake Delhomme...who do you think most NFL teams would rather have on their side?

All I take away from those things is not to get hyped about what you see in a workout exactly but instead take a look at the guy's entire body of work...

...and that sometimes, no matter how great a guy looks on paper or how few warning sings you've had, physical talent can only carry someone so far. At some point they have to put in the work.

At least somebody gets it.

Workouts don't mean jack, regardless of what quarterback you're talking about.
