Yea he was stupid, yea it got him 2 years, yea we don't get troubled players, but was it really that bad? I mean other than the ridiculous 2 years for it, was it a sign of him being a "bad" person?

Edit: Nevermind, found out he was 34. but lets say he was 26, was it really that bad? I mean considering if it happened in a Charlotte club he would have got a legal fine maybe a 2 game suspension.

CLARIFICATION: I'm talking in regards to what he did and our front office and how they view troubled athletes. Obviously we dont get players with a violent or abusive history, but what if another player came along with the same deal and was a great, young athlete.

I think Plax is a complete idiot and that type of stupidity isn't needed on any team IMO.

However, Lenord Little, Donte' Stallworth and Michael Vick all were convicted for way worse. Ray Lewis and Ben Rothslinberger were accused and probably did do way worse. But all of those players were let right back into the league, although some quicker than others.

Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson and Plax are idiots, no doubt. Dangerous to the community and all needed to be punished but it does seem like those three got it ten times worse than the above muderers and rapists got. Just my opinion though.

Not totally sure how "stupid" Burress was. I think he was extremely irresponsible more than stupid. If you are going to carry concealed you need to make sure that you check the laws of the state/city/business that you are going to be carrying in. Unfortunately, too many people carry firearms without being aware of their surroundings or trained in how to carry properly or even use their firearm.

As for the safety issue, I have had my safety flipped by accident a couple of times. It can happen. But again, i think you need to be more aware if you are going to carry a concealed weapon of any kind.

On a personal mortality level, I find nothing wrong with what Burress did apart from breaking gun laws.

And to that point, I do not think he deserved prison time for what happened. He hurt no one but himself. I honestly can't believe he couldn't hire an attorney that could have gotten him a probationary sentence, unless he had a record of prior problems I don't know about.

From what I can tell, the system made an example out of him, and I believe treated him unfairly.

That being said...

I do not want that dumbass catching balls in a Panthers uniform.

No matter what else the issues, Burress has to be stupid as hell. Putting a loaded gun in your pants anywhere close to your johnson is crazy. Any guy would have to wholeheartedly agree with that!!

1. Is it all that hard to get a permit for your handgun? In NYC it sure is, pretty much illegal. Maybe he shouldn't get one then?

He could lose an extremely lucrative career and/or go to prison for a very long time.

That is a stupid decision that just about every adult I know wouldn't make.

2. Let's assume it is entirely legal to carry a concealed weapon. Is it hard to get a holster for your handgun? Nope.

He could lose the gun, drop the gun, or give somebody easy access to the gun.

Instead I guess some sweatpants(most likely baggy) will serve as a proper substitute.

3. Is it hard to keep the safety on? No. Pretty self explanatory there.

4. Let's assume he has very legitimate threats in locations that he needs to defend himself from.

Isn't it just easier to avoid those locations all together?

Are the drinks, music, and women at that club so amazing that he needs to risk his life to go there? It's extremely unlikely that this club was dangerous if at all.

Does he have to go down back alleys entering/exiting the club? Doubt it.

Is the security at these clubs so incompetent that he needs to carry a gun with him?

Why doesn't he just hire a body guard? Is it such a costly investment that it's cheaper to risk your entire career over it? Armored Car? No more than a Ferrari.

This wasn't a gun found at his house or car. Maybe he could garner some sympathy then. But not tucked in his pants.

Extremely poor judgement. He had to expend great amounts of energy to be stupid. It wasn't an accident.

He was charged with reckless endangerment because having on your person so loosely secured means he could have shot somebody else. It's not like he had this gun at his home or in his trunk. He was risking the lives of every single person he was close to.

Assuming everything else in his favor this is still sooooooo stupid. Just no.
