Yasinskas suggests Gabbert at #1

And he's got the media's eye too. We need people in seats. I don't want blackouts. I think Cam ultimately has a better chance at bringing in some crowds than anyone else.

if we sold out a Carolina/Arizona game, I doubt we'll have any problems with blackouts lol :D

i would rather draft cam if we are going to reach for a QB....at least he has the physical freak thing going for him

THIS.....if we are going to draft a qb, lets at least draft the one that has the potential to be a bigger, stronger Michael Vick, not a taller Clausen

I can't imagine us going #1... Gabbert or Newton or anyone else.

6'5, 240 lbs and athletic enough to shake off hits, keep plays alive down field, and run for first downs when necessary isn't exactly poor shape physically... but you're right, he's not a freak like Newton. Nobody is. But I don't know that "physical freak" is a requirement for franchise QB.

lol, wow, talk about ridiculous comparisons run amok.

This is something I wish more people understood.

Yes, we have a need at quarterback. And yes, there are quarterbacks available in the draft. Those two factors do not automatically mean that uising the top pick on a quarterback is the best way to go. There are other options.

And again, we really picked a lousy year to need a quarterback :(

Yeah, our timing is a little off, but you gotta role with the punches and take whats there like you said.

I think people want a quarterback, and because the position seems to be hit and miss in the draft. They figure just grab one, any one, and hope it works out. But I think if you have the first pick and no sure fire guy is there, just build the team around the position and eventually you will get somebody.

I know you need a quarterback to win in this league, but Houston, San Diego, Denver, and St. Louis all had quarterbacks and it didn't amount to much with poor teams around them. Get some players. Don't roll dice on quarterbacks that are not worth the pick.

Who? Never heard of him. Did he beat anybody? Did he win anything?

Iowa won the Orange Bowl and he was a candidate for quite a number of QB'ing awards.

Here's a review of him:

And here are his numbers from last season..

6'4", 230..

I say he's worth some serious consideration.

I stand by Ricky Stanzi as someone worth looking at late.

He impressed me quite a bit during Senior Bowl week, and I think he could really turn into somebody with some decent coaching.

A nice read on him: http://nfldraftmonsters.com/scouting/scouting-report-ricky-stanzi/

I like him too but he has some serious issues with getting the ball deep down field. If he's there for our pick in the third he's a possibility but I think we have too many holes to fill, he's not really an answer for us, and will need some work.

As to Gabbert, I like a lot about him and I personally don't see him as "another Clausen." Many, many rookies have questions about pocket awareness, which is the main place people can compare Gabbert to Clausen. He played behind a pretty bad line, got sacked a decent amount, but he still was the entire Missouri offense between the 20s most of the time, never had a ton of help from his receivers (like the basically dropped ball to end the game against Iowa)... But he DOES have concerns. I don't think he should go #1 though. He's no Andrew Luck. Put him on a team where he can sit and learn from a vet and come in in a couple years and he could do very very well. We are not that team.

Gabbert and Clausen are nothing alike.

They may both be good, or they may both suck, but either way, they're very different QBs the way I see it.

NFL Live just did a "Strengths & Weaknesses" from the Top 4 Rookie QB's from last year.

They had Clausen's greatest strength in his decision making, and his greatest weakness was his "frail body" (same weakness they gave to McCoy)

I can't understand the logic here. Telling yourself that no one in this class has the potential to be manning or ryan is crazy. Few Qbs are manning or ryan like, with that said when would you like the franchise to find a quarterback? second round? maybe in the 5th next year?

Just because A quarterback isn't of the norm doesn't mean he can't be special or win in his own way. History shows the later a quarterback is picked the"less" chance he has to be one of the elite. How often do we have a pick high enuff to grab the best QB in the draft.

I keep seeing there is no franchise qb in this draft, well i Think having the best one is this class is prob better than having one picked 22nd or later(in the future or current).

If not now when? Or do we think drafting a DT or Defensive end is going to seriously improve the leagues worst offense. Maybe 5 more years of Jake tommy jone or some other stop gap is what the people in carolina want. Any pick on defense doesnt make sense to me seeing as how that wasnt the problem.

when people say thoughts they have had over and over again, it becomes a belief, no facts needed, no logic, just repetition of a thought they had......Carolina needs to fill up the seats again like all teams do, they need impact players, they need talent on the field......man oh man who ever we pick the fans may be split on the decision

Don't have to convince myself. I firmly believe it, and with good reason.

Whether or not others believe it doesn't really matter to me.

Whether or not the team believes it is something we'll find out in April.

(and no, the team isn't going to look to fans for guidance; nor should they)

if you firmly believe it, and it doesn't matter to you if others believe it then i have to wonder why you feel the need to say it every time someone brings up any quarterback from the draft.
