maybe Philips is still available for you guys...

Habs just picked up Nigel Dawes and Brent Sopel from Atlanta for prospect Ben Maxwell and a 4th pick.

not huge names, but both pretty decent players...good trade in my opinion for Montreal

=\ mehh

We need defensive help. Im sick of seeing other teams trading for good defensemen. We need to be one of those teams if we want to go far in the playoffs and not just make it.

At the same time I am glad we're not mortgaging the future to win this year. Very few of our NHL guys are under contract next year so we will have quite a bit of cap space to make moves in the off season.

Carter's injury may take 3-4 weeks longer to heal. It was a good deal to bring in a vet that knows the Canes for almost nothing. Has worked for JR in the past. He was quoted in saying today when asked about more deals "We're still looking. We're still sitting in a strong position". There will be more moves to come.

Alex Kovalev traded to Pens for a 7th round pick, 7th round. Yeah he sucked last night against us taking bad penalties but when hes on hes supremely talented. I think he could have taken Samsonovs or Dwyers roster spot and us be just fine.

Bret Carson was placed on waivers today. Little surprised by this unless there was mutual respect there and JR hopes that someone does claim him. I would have thought this time of season he could have been traded for a late round pick, pretty sure he gets claimed.
