2011 NHL Trade Deadline

The trade deadline is at 3 p.m. on February 28th and the Canes need to make a f*cking move. For a majority of the games since the All-Star break we look lost and confused. Especially on defense. So, here are some rumored names on the block. I'd like to see us get defense, but wouldn't be opposed to any sort of veteran.

Brad Richards- Stars

Marian Gaborik- Rangers

*Chris Phillips- Senators

Devin Setoguchi- Sharks

Ales Hemsky- Oilers

Tomas Kaberle- Maple Leafs

I'd like us to add a veteran defenseman like Phillips or even Kaberle. I think Sergei Samsonov has potential to be good trade bait. I hope Rutherford makes some moves.

We just need to fix the defense. The forwards are all fine. Get a couple of players to replace Harrison and Pitkanen and another to send to the Checkers.

friend of mine is pretty close to Philips and there are rumors he is going to Montreal....I know his mom and dad, and they hate the Habs!!!!

If we got Setoguchi, I might get really drunk. He is so good. But I agree, we need D-men more than forwards.

Setoguchi is interesting to me. He has kind of declined each year since he had that big year in 2008 (I think?). He's young, so I'm certainly interested in bring him in.

I really want Chris Phillips. Hopefully Hawk's Montreal rumors are false. I'd love to have him here.

Karmanos has authorized Rutherford to "do what he needs to do to improve the team". Should be an interesting deadline.

JR is infamous for bringing in players that have declined in recent years to jump start their careers... so Setoguchi makes a lot of sense to me. I just don't know what we would offer in return.

I also believe we need more help on the back end than up front. Kaberle would be amazing but I don't see the leafs giving him up easily.

Unless they plan on dealing that 3rd somewhere else for a player or in a package deal for somebody, that was stupid. Versteeg is damn good. Great play-maker who is an awesome special teams guy. He still has at least 5 more good years, plus a couple mediocre years after that. Just a stupid trade, IMO. Now Philly has another player to turn into a cheap-shot artist.

The Versteeg trade is such a win for Philly. Dude is 24 and can be productive into his 30's with a team like the Flyers.

I think most people thought the Devils would start dealing, but now that they are hot I'm not sure if they can afford to.
