Kiper has Cam as one of the first QB off the board

he has yet to put Newton ahead of Gabbert, but he has raised Newton at least according to the clip. We don't know if he actually will rank Newton ahead of Gabbert. I don't know that it matters directly to us though, since I don't see us going after Gabbert either.

I question Kiper's judgment after all the crap that has surfaced about him this last year, though. Considering how many agents pay him I think he's worthless.

Didn't Kiper have Clausen as the #2 on his board last year?

Can't remember.

Also remember comments about his being in bed so to speak with Clausen's agent.

If Rivera thinks that Newton is 'the guy' then he will be the 'guy'. Doesn't matter about Kiper.

I think Newton is a rare athlete...as someone said, maybe another Freeman or Ben, who knows. There were knocks against both of those quys too.

On the other hand, giving someone a multi-million $$ check and making them the face of the franchise, which the QB is above all others, requires a lot of confidence in those intangilbles. I guess it will all depend on interviews and the tape, stating the obvious.

I'm sure the Panthers don't want a repeat of Kerry Collins or the same experience as Atlanta had with Vick or Oakland with Russell.

Having a big, athletic QB who just needs time to learn certain skills is not a bad thing, if the coaches feel he is capable of learning them as long as there is a free agent QB so he can, in fact sit and learn for awhile.

The workout may not have changed Kiper's mind at all. :P

I'm not surprised Gabbert is slipping for Kiper, his agent probably isn't ponying up the money... he has the same agent as Bradford I think, and we know what Kiper said of Bradford. Obviously Bradford is a far superior prospect to Gabbert, but still. Makes you wonder what's up with Kiper's judgment. (Hint: It only has a bit to do with the players he's grading.)

Seriously as a senior 16 touchdowns compared to 9 picks are those really numbers you'd want with a guy drafted in the top ten? He has a great arm and is mobile for his size, but gabbert is as big a question mark as locker in my mind. He did end the season with a loss and pick 6 if im not mistaken.

actually he ended the season on a 4th down on a questionable incompletion call while marching down the field, but yeah. That INT return was one of the examples of the "bad Gabbert" that rarely shows his head, but when it does, you want to smack him.

I'm not saying we should draft Gabbert, and I don't even know if he's a top ten pick, but there is a ton to like about him. He's big, athletic, smart, a leader on the field and off, dedicated. He had good stats his previous year but yes this year they were not spectacular, and I think if he'd come back for his senior year he might have turned some heads (and some had him rated as the #1 QB of next year's class, if Luck had come out this year). He was given a high first round grade by scouts, not by draft gurus, and that is why he entered the draft.

People are focusing on his touchdowns, and you shouldn't. If you want to talk about his stats though, I can mention some things that aren't quite so negative and may illuminate some of why people like him... Missouri's offense, despite not being great on the ground outside the 20, had an inordinate percentage of touchdowns scored on the ground. A larger percentage than even Auburn, lol. Plus he actually had the fewest interceptions per attempt of any of the top quarterbacks, even Luck. His protection was abysmal, indicated by two things: 1) the number of times he scrambled for a yard or two, and 2) the number of sacks he ended up with.

I don't know if he's a top ten pick or not but his stats are deceptive. I wish he'd stayed at Missouri another year but since he was told he'd go in the first, I don't blame him for leaving. Hell, even Missouri told him to take it when they found out that was what the scouts said.
