Season 2011 QB consensus poll

We need a veteran--Volek makes the most sense if we are copying SDiego's offense. I think he should be the backup, at first. If JC or Pike don't step up, he has to finish the year until we know what to do. I might add competition for Pike late in the draft. Yates (do not laugh) had good leadership skills. PS maybe?

oy vey.

that bar is set pretty low, isn't it?

who needs success when we can be average at best for the next 6 years?

Clausen came to the NFL a year early--and perhaps 4-5 seasons ahead of a more normal curve for professional QB evolution. Not knocking the young man, its just that his position takes time--and he is playing without the assets of say:Mark Sanchez. Worse still, he arrived in something of a turmoil and was immediately thrown to the wolves..hardly the best way to develop and groom a QB. Panthers would do best to get an established veteran QB to take the heat for most of 2011. Let Clausen take his shots through out the season as injury or opportunity dictate. Clausen is a project to be developed, he is nowhere near a finished product. Kevin Kolb ( Eagles #2 QB) is young, strong, and proficient...he might keep Clausen on bench for next 4 seasons. Cam Newton--?? Don't see another rookie QB doing much for the team except looking like a great athlete and missing most of the reads/calls for 16 games...and playing behind the rest of the offense. QB should be a leader for team in 2011, not some one with training wheels.

Would you trade Clausen for Mark Sanchez?

Intersting question. Most people would say YES!!!

Consider this--

2010

Jets OL > Panthers OL (Aside from the pro bowlers, Schwartz, Bernadeau, Williams)

Jets WR> Panthers WR (Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery, Smith better than Smith and the rookies)

Jets OC > Panthers OC

Jets Running Game > Panthers' Running backs (Williams and Stewart hurt a lot)

Sanchez threw 13 interceptions and had a league record 15 interceptions dropped. His QB rating was still only 11 points higher than Clausen's.

It is all about support and perception. JC will be OK.

How I feel today, I say sign Cam but also get a Vet like a Volek too. Let Cam & Clausen battle for the #2 spot & when it's their inevitable time to shine, put em out there. And in my opinion Cam will win that battle.

If Cam has a horrid Combine & interviews/evaluations then I'd go with the Vet to coach up Clausen.
