Jake Delhomme to be released...again.

The only "average" year he had was 2000. You realize he was a backup in 96 and 97 right? And in those 2 years he had 14 TDs and 5 INTs.

I'm well aware that he was a backup those years, so I just threw them out. Secondly 2000 was in many ways a better season than 1998. Both of which were on par with an average Jake year based on his career average. The only year that he was far and away better than Jakes average was 1999.

So, you could argue that he had a one year wonder year with Carolina, considering it was the best year of his career. In fact his QB rating average for the three seasons that he started all games is a lowly 85.6, which is below Jakes career average with the panthers if you throw out his last season. But keep on nut hugging Beuerlein if you want.

Yea if you take away seasons from Beuerlein and only count the good ones for Delhomme, then I guess Delhomme will be a better QB lol... I bet you're counting the year Delhomme only started 3 games when you calculated those QB Ratings right? Because excluding that year and also excluding last year (while only including his healthy years with us), his QB rating is still below Beuerleins starting years. That's a more fair comparison. (btw...Beuerleins 3 starting years QB rating is 87.5)

Mav's got a good point, about the difference of offense with those team's. I try to keep an open mind killerkat, but Jake will alway's have a place in the history of the team, you know what I'am tryin to say...like Smitty and Moose and Hoooooov! I can still see D.Foster and that leap into the endzone...

I miss Jake. I think after last year we realize what he brought to the table. No, not Peyton Manning stats, but he had fun, and at times, he made us have fun too. You could tell he cared about the team and winning, not just the money, and that made us care for this franchise way more than before he came along. He was a leader, and his team followed him through each game. He took blame when it was due and came back and tried his hardest to do better.

Jake gave me my favorite football game of all time and my most hated football game, which are the Super Bowl game and the Arizona loss in the playoffs. It was a roller-coaster ride with him and this team but it was NEVER boring.

I do think he was a better QB than most give him credit for. He had the best WR in the league on 2 occasions with 2 different WRs on a team that was always run heavy. No, not Tom Brady skills, but he was good before that surgery.

Hate the people that became fans that super bowl year, but you'd be hating a LOT of people on these forums. I personally just moved to Charlotte the July before the Super Bowl season. My friend down here at the time said I should start watching the Panthers, now that I could see every game. I watched that first game with him, when Peete left the game, and Jake came in and did his thing. I was hooked from that day forward with the Panthers, and the more I seen of Jake that year, the more I fell in love with this team. Jake brought a lot to this team, more than things like NFC title games or super bowl appearances. We can hate on his diminishing skills later on, but Jake had class and still does.

Bring him in to retire, he's still ours, he's still a Panther, and he always will be. If he can contribute some way for the team, I say do it. He may not be able to teach the most "technical" things to QBs, but he can sure show them how to be classy, how to lead your team, take blame when it's due, and how to be a great backup because you NEVER know when it will be your time, and who best to teach them that than Jake, who lived in that scenario.

False, I stated his career rating for seasons he started all games. He did not start all games in 1998 for the Panthers, he only started all games for two seasons with them. The third season I calculated was with Phoenix Cardinals in 1993.

Therefore, like I said, Beuerlein's Career rating in seasons he started all games, (only three in a 15 year career btw) is an 85.6. Delhomme's career rating if you throw out his last year is an 85.75. That's with doing the math correct and adding it up on a game by game basis, not by counting 2006 as 16 games like you assumed I did. Check the math, you'll see that I'm right.

plus, the difference between 87.5 and 85 is pretty freaking low. Delhomme holds Panthers records for yards, touchdowns, attempts, completions... and sure, he may not have had the best year as a Panthers quarterback but I think his wins push him over the top.

Very well said Maximus, and that surgery did have an effect on his arm. I know some poeple in the rehab field and they all say the same thing about tommy john surgery. You can live a normal life after it, but your never the same after it. Killerkat, c'mon man the best? I'am just bustin your chop's.

What the f**k are you talking about? You're counting a year in which he wasn't even on this damn team when the whole conversation is about the PANTHERS.You're cherry picking numbers in a way that your boy comes out in a positive light. According to your formula, in games Beuerlein started a whole season with us (which is 2) his QB rating is 87.15...still higher than Delhomme's. Including the 98 year where he started 12 games, it's 87.5.

Those numbers are only a reflection of how long he's played. Not how good he is.

All I did was count year's that he started all games. Because there weren't very many seasons that he played much to give a good sample size. I stated that from the beginning. But if you want me to count all those awful back up years he had with ratings in the 60's I will. It'll just make Beuerlein look worse though.
