How to Nudge the Team Toward Cam Newton

Its not a card. Given our poor situation at QB last season and the fact we are rebuilding. Why would you not want the best QB available? Thats like football 101. Some of our fans just arent keen on winning or let me rephrase that, they only want to win under certain conditions. Winning at all costs is a foreign concept to them. Thats how you explain a franchise that goes 16 years in and has 4 winning seasons and considers itself "successful". We have to change the mindset, upgrading our QB position and the standards we hold them to is a good start.

I like how your 'highlight' of Cam Newton shows him running a play that he would never do in the NFL. How about you find a highlight of him reading a defense, or throwing a rope between two DBs to hit his receiver in stride.

I don't believe they'll go QB at number one for three reasons:

1) whether we like it or not, they are committed to giving Jimmy Clausen a fair shot to prove whether or not he can be a franchise QB

2) the team has other significant needs that could be addressed now rather than taking a guy whose impact won't be felt for at least a year (quite possibly more)

3) having multiple young quarterbacks on roster makes coaching them up more difficult

With all that said, they could still do it. I just don't believe they should.

There is not one player on the board who is guaranteed to have an impact now, and even if there is, this is a 2-3 year rebuilding project anyway, regardless of who the QB is in 2011. In fact, it could very easily turn in to 4-5 years if they don't get a potential franchise QB this year.

when you're in a system that develops a qb through running it over passing it it's hard to say. Nobody knows what kind of intellect Cam has.

And that's exactly what our scouts and front office needs to find out. Do they think he can learn, run, and orchestrate and NFL style offense. If yes, Cam #1 pick... If not; A.J. Green.

Fairley, Bowers and Peterson could all start from day one. Green probably could too but I'm no more in favor of drafting a receiver than I am a quarterback.

Ok, say they draft Fairley and he starts from day one. So what? It's highly unlikely that he will have the same impact as Suh did, and it's even more unlikely that we will have a play off caliber offense, so you're probably looking at 6-8 wins, at best. Meanwhile, we're still looking for that franchise QB.

Berkley, Luck, and Jones are all better individually than all the qbs in this draft are... combined

This is a lousy year to need a quarterback. Next year is expected to be better.

So yes, I'd rather fill another position of need and take a shot at someone who's more likely to fit the franchise QB mode next season.

With all the teams out there that needs QB's I personally don't see us being in position to draft one next year...

If we pass on a Qb this year I expect the defense to continue to improve, the FO will bring in a FA QB who is capable of producing a few wins... we finish with 6 - 8 wins drafting just outside of the top 10.... and not having a shot at either of those QB's... Now were stuck with mediocrity or less at the QB position like majority of the other teams in the NFL.

We're unable to get "that guy" because we keep trading picks away foolishly. Sometimes you need to just get "that guy". That's how you get your franchise QB. The Panthers are still crying about that short stint with Kerry Collins unable to move forward with another lover.

Instead of going after another hot chick the Panthers choose a string of 2nd class and unattractive(undrafted) hook ups. Did she (he)hurt you? Yes. Did she embarrass you? Yes! Did she claim that you were small market and your clothes looked funny and run off with the older kid in school? Yes!!! :cryin:

You may feel like you have no Luck with the ladies because everybody thinks you're cheap but just dust yourself off little fella! Don't be scared of the pretty girl in class. The next one may actually not be a garden tool. She may be a nice girl, if not, better to have loved and lost eh?!?

Hate Me made a good point, unless Rivera is a total failure or Jerry pisses everybody off and there is actually a lock out till' 2012, we won't have the opportunity to get an possible elite QB for quite some time.

Half the city was happy when we traded Kobe for Vlade. That is how you stay "small market".
