Why in God's name would we pick Bowers #1?

crazy talk... If you throw Hardy into this current draft right now, he isn't going in the first round. Bowers is a lock for top 5. Come back to earth from planet "Panthersarebestteamever"

Uh, before his rash, and I do mean lentghy rash of injuries, Hardy was projected by some to be a first round pick based off his early production.

Nice try bud, I mean playa.

i tired of people talking about potential that is nothing production is everything

Whose production, Bowers? The million dollar question that people can never predict with any great certainty is the production at the college level and if it translates to the pro game. Some people are better than others, but nobody can claim certainty in that evaluation process.

Bowers had a good college career, however, the last few heralded D-linemen out of Clemson fell short of their hype.

ask any real Clemson fan about how they viewed Gaines, Sapp, and Bowers coming out. Sapp just isn't that good especially after he got hurt in college....and Gaines was hyped into something he isn't. Bowers has a better skill set than both......Bowers is built to play every down and have an impact.

DEs:

Charles Johnson (All-Pro caliber)

Tyler Brayton (reliable starter)

Greg Hardy (young guy with potential)

Everette Brown (see Hardy)

DTs:

Nick Hayden (backup quality at best)

?????

Why then does Todd McShay have us picking Bowers, then Denver picking Fairley? We need to pick the best player available at the position that we need and would improve our team the most, which is DT, and Fairley is the best player at that position.

Most people outside of Tuscaloosa agree.

Or, are we going to just stockpile 5 good DEs, have lousy DTs and hope for 1-2 wins next year? Will this front office show a desire to win?

This is not a good basis for a disscussion because your assuming that the team will be picking based soley on need and that the #1 pick is the only option to fill the position.

We could draft Bowers, draft a DT in the 3rd and sign two in FA.

I think drafting for need is a bad idea especially at #1. Then it gets even worse when you have the top DT with Jarmarcus Russel-like scouting reports.

Hardy was a first round lock two years ago. Hardy is just as good as Bowers IMO.

Even if Hardy was a first round lock (ended up getting drafted in the sixth round) he wasn't a top 5 lock which is what Bowers is... I am not saying that Hardy couldn't possibly be better than Bowers in his career (i truly hope he is), but it isn't logical to assume Hardy will be better than the projected #1 DE in the draft.

I Kind of feel that you always go after of your biggest need..But when you have so many big needs on your team you have to go with the best player that you think will make the biggest impact..Me personally i say we go Nick fairley, I think he has the best chance to make a huge impact right now on our defense. He should get alot of help with the blitz packages Rivera and mcdermott will have. I will say in our defense rite now Nick fairley will have the biggest impact and will fill a huge need at DT. And plus if we ever go to 3-4 he will fill that 3 tech DE role.
