Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

How many here remember Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney recently talking about the fact that they don't put much stock in workouts because they don't represent actual game conditions?

Doubt this changes anything as far as the Panthers plans, though I won't be surprised to see them take part in the hype train. Maybe if it gets going full steam, we can get a decent offer to trade down.

This is a good thing for us.

The problem with the number one pick is, you have to judge the person along with his abilities on the field. You're looking at making a guy the poster boy of your franchise. But, wherever Cam Newton has gone, there has been controversy.

With that being said, I would prefer us to draft Nick Fairley. I think we have a much higher need on the defensive line, and it's the spot that would be easiest to fix. Just like my sig says, Fox went 7-9 with Rodney Peete at QB. We need to fix the problems that are easiest to fix.

Getting back on topic. I'm not on the Newton bandwagon but he would certainly fit our new offensive philosophy of mid-long range attacking with his arm. His ability to elude defenders is also a plus. I just don't like how he bails on the play to run so much.

To give him the benefit of the doubt though. You have no idea what Auburn was telling him on plays. Maybe they were telling him not to be hesistant to run if given the opportunity.

I'd take Newton over a DT in a heartbeat..and this workout only solidified my stance. the impact rating of a QB is beyond any other position since it effects every position on the field..a DT, while important, only marginally effects the rest of the D..and even then there are FA available that would help more then a rookie DT would..you can't say that about the QBs out there.

The team wants to build through the draft..we tried with Clausen but we've seen he has backup written all over him for many years..why not get a phenom talent like Newton that can put the franchise on the map?
