Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

There were NFL teams that wanted Cam before this. So I imagine there still are.

Not sure how many of them want him enough to move up to #1 though.

Two things...

#1. A couple weeks training isn't going to make his footwork look that impressive, if he already didn't have good technique to back it up.

#2. Professional Athletes are ALWAYS reaching out to trainers and coaches to improve their gameplay. Manning has a trainer. Brady has a trainer.. they ALL will tell you they can get better, even if we think they are gods. By hiring a trainer, this in NO WAY says he thought he had bad footwork. Nice strawman though.

...sigh.

yeah man, the fact that the entire "Team Newton" was like "We want you to see how much Cam's footwork has improved" just was an elaborate ploy to convince us all his footwork had improved when in reality it was SIMPLY AMAZING all along and we were totally wrong about all the game film that showed it being less than stellar. hell, all them thar scouts etc who thought so too were just wrong. Cam's just pulling a fast one on us!

Why the hell is it so hard for you to accept that CAM NEWTON HAD TO IMPROVE ON SOMETHING?? Grah. This is pure insanity.

Looks like a guy in shorts with no defense.

As Mayock said, best workout he ever saw was JaMarcus Russell's.

Well, we could bust out some Auburn highlights, but all we'll get from the Anti-Newton crowd is "Oh those were just all designed plays!", or "Well, he can't do all that in the NFL."

Tell you what. You make a video of someone off the street, or even yourself, going through training steppers as fast and coordinated as he is in that video, and I'll take that "guy in shorts" assessment as accurate.

And why can't you accept that this workout was a media display to improve his draft stock and create buzz of his amazing talent?

Why are you trying to make it seem like everything he can do is a product of two weeks of training or dismiss it?

And as far as game film of him being less than stellar... besides the NC game, where he was hurt for a chunk of the game, I'd really like to see some showing he CONSISTENTLY has bad footwork. All I've been able to find is highlight reel after highlight reel.

Clausen looked great in his footwork drills all thru camp, so what does that tell you? A lot of guys look great with no opposition, no pressure and no pads. Several of his throws were still off target.

Not once, has anyone to my knowledge, criticized Clausen's footwork.

His problems are his downfield vision, his low release, and his route timing. Problem was for Jimmy, and will continue to be, the NFL is taller and faster than college, and he doesn't have the height or speed to compensate for it.

His footwork, when he's not running for his life, seemed fine. In fact, it's actually one POSSIBLE good point to the kid. (I saw similar moves and plants in his ND vids, as he did with the Panthers).

What?? Where do you get I am trying to make it seem like that? I just said that his team all along has said he was working on his footwork. He's got plenty of great qualities and frankly I think it's more impressive that he is working this hard to improve on things than if he was just hiring this coach as some kind of scam and is paying him to do little.

You're the one that is convinced this entire process with this QB coach is a giant sham because Cam is some football god...

I mean, workouts mean little. Yes, I know you hate it, but there have been past failures to indicate this and if you really want I can link you videos about that too. Workouts must be considered as only a small part of a player's resume. But they can tell you some things, especially when a player admits he is using them to improve in areas, then showcases them.

I liked the bits where Moon was giving him advice and he was adjusting in the drills. I liked it. I hope he keeps that kind of advice with him and it sticks. I was glad I finally got to see more than 15 seconds of it.

I'm just going to reply to this, because almost everything else you typed is a huge fuging backpedal from your attitude last week and earlier this week...

Stop misrepresenting what I said.

I, not once, said his work with George Whitfield is a sham. Nor did I say his media outing was a sham.

He hired Whitfield to improve, but there is no way he could "improve" to the level he showed in his footwork mechanics in two weeks if he didn't have already had good mechanics to start with.
