Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

All star games don't show sh*t either. The kids have one week to learn a system and execute it. I never said Locker was better then Cam so please don't misinterpret my post' date=' all I said was there are reasons why a scout might think Locker is a safer pick then Cam....[/quote']

LOL if you truly believe that then your so lost. While they are not something you base your draft on they do tell you how fast a kid can pick up a system and it also shows you how well he does ageist some of the better talent in college. There are a lot of one on one matchups on that field you can analyze. Everything a kid does prior to the draft is just a little more on his resume. Its all about giving scouts footage to look at or lack there of in some players cases.

Really? Mayock: Locker struggles to throw from the pocket :sosp:

What Mayock is saying in regard to Newton is that game tape tells you more than a workout does. Workouts don't reproduce actual game conditions, so it's generally best to go by game tape over workout results.

Another guy said that this past week too. Guy by the name of Ron Rivera...

WTFever... he starts off saying that there are 4 kids that (QB) have first round talent, and Locker is one of them. He then says it's hard to figure out the "intangibles", but then says he's a top 15 pick.

He starts off with nothing but positives. In contrast, he gives nothing but negatives about Newton.

So sick of the spin... you'd think this was a political debate.

So tape on an exhibition game with limited practice time to learn a system is a big factor in a players draft stock....

Well he has 3 years of suck on film if the all star game didn't do it for you. You like film, right?

I don't know why you are coming at me like this, like I'm some super Locker supporter but I will say I do like game film. Even more than film, I like to project how a particular player's skill set will transfer over to the NFL and use that as a basis.

Not on this board during this draft cycle. Experts yes.

You've been a member for a month. People have said the same thing countless times here every year during the combine workouts. Wait a couple of weeks and you will read it more times then you care to....

Do you read or do you just enjoy looking like a dumbass? It has some effect on there stock but you would not base your draft on it.

Here let me say it one more time so you might catch it... Its has some effect on there stock but you would not base your draft on it.

Hopefully it will sink in now. :beatdeadhorse5:

Because the measurable stuff can be used to decide between two guys that you have an equal grade on.

Occasionally, you do get a team that's dumb enough to move a guy up way higher than they had him graded before just because he was a workout warrior.

That's how you end up drafting a guy like Mike Mamula in the first round.

If you never place a bet you will never win the prize. They haven't put their money down on a QB since Kerry Collins and that is why we are in the situation we are in now, they've been too scared since then.

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Draft defense again and we will remain the same, weak.

TB said they would have drafted Freeman at 1 or 14 it didn't matter to them.

It's OK to draft Kobe Charlotte, he won't turn you down like Luck has. :)

At least Newton is a proven winner.

I feel like Cam could be the Michael Jordan of this draft. What I mean by that is in ten years people may look back and say, "How the hell did these teams pass on him."

Staying with that analogy, if we do pass on him I just hope we end up with a Hakeem Olajuwon and not a Sam Bowie!!!! :)

I would be willing to bet if you asked a pro scout how much stock they put into an exhibition all star game when it comes to drafting a player they would say less then 5%. It just doesn't mean anything compared to game tape in the real season when it matters......

this arguing gets really old.. this whole thread is filled with misunderstanding..

Locker sucks.. no one is saying we should draft him, so talking about Locker is pretty irrelevant to this whole discussion.

Mayock is a widely respected, and very knowledgeable.. So he says Locker is the 2nd best, that's hardly a reason to say his whole volume of work is worthless..

so since that is stated in the simplest of terms without any implication involved..

what the fug.....

LOL if it didnt mean anything then they would not attend. They look at the whole body of work. Your seasons, your bowl games, your workouts, your combine, your wonderlic, and your interview with them. Its all come into play and all factors into there draft process.

Dilfer said Bradford wasn't even close to the best player in his draft, that Clausen was the most NFL ready he's seen, and McCoy could become the best, though he said this with a conflict of interest.

Every analyst misses, it's no reason to discredit any of them.
