Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

also, RE: Bradford's spread (and Gabbert's, not that Gabbert's was the same as OU's), as JOAT pointed it, it was NOT like what was run at Auburn and what was asked of the quarterback was VERY different and OU worked to prepare Bradford for the NFL even in their spread. That being said, if there were concerns about even Bradford, who spent YEARS in that offense, which advanced to the point where Bradford actually was taking snaps under center and operating out of sets that resembled pro sets and was progressing through multiple reads post snap (but he didnt do very much pre-snap himself, which is typical), why are people ASTONISHED that there are concerns about an option spread offense??

I love it... an asshole who starts off by saying "I didn't attend the work out, I didn't see the work out, and I don't need to hear how the workout went, to tell you how it looked... " IMMEDIATELY jumps into a Jamarcus Russell comparison.

Bucky Brooks states in the video *I* linked, that Russell had leadership and work ethic issues, and what's been said of Cam points to the complete opposite.

The comparison was that "I am sure he looked good BUT I caution people getting too excited about workouts because the best workout I saw was Jamarcus Russell."

he wasn't saying "CAM NEWTON LOOKS LIKE RUSSELL." He was saying you can NOT judge anything from this.

Still, I'm glad he did it and I hope the film gets leaked to the web >.>

Cam Newton is completely polarizing, and no, not because of race.

Thats why we dont want him. Thats why we feel we're too good for him, even with Clausen as our starting QB. People laugh at our arrogance about QB given how many scrubs and nobodys we've gotten behind and or overhyped foolishly.

derp derp college quarterback that ran for 350 yards across 3 years and threw for 11000 on 1300 attempts being compared to a player with a single season in an option offense with quick read and run play design.

get real.

When did I say he said he looked like Russell????

But why say anything about Russell at all? Why cast the negativity OFF THE BAT?

Same here.

Derp but did Ben transition derp?

I'm sick of this argument. Unless you are willing to come out and say "I think this guy is too stupid to learn a new offense.", then get off the subject. This workout was designed to show he could make offensive adjustments, and EVERYONE who was there is saying he can.

... you really don't get it do you. nobody is saying Cam Newton is stupid or that he can't transition or... whatever, (well some may be, but I'm not), all I'm saying is that Cam Newton is a project and I don't expect the Panthers to invest in another project this year. This is the same thing many scouts and analysts are saying about him.

The workout was designed to show he could improve his awful footwork under controlled conditions. Like I said, I want to see the film of it and I'm glad he did it, but I don't expect it to really help him all that much.

because he thinks the workout was worthless and proves nothing.

that is what I got, anyway. I didn't walk away thinking, "Gee, Mayock hates this guy," just "gee, Mayock thinks the same thing about Cam Newton that he thought before", which, uh, is kind of what many of us have been saying for some time.

Like it's already been said the Russell comment was made in respect to putting too much stock into a well planned out workout. Russell blew everyone away with his workouts and ability to throw the ball 80 yards on his knee and then got to camp and couldn't do poo....

Ouch, heh.

I guess I'm not the only one who thought it seemed like most of the plays he ran were one read and run.

He also has Locker ahead of Cam. Why? What has Locker ever done to prove he can run an NFL passing game? He ran a WCO, which usually makes QB's look even better than they really are, and he still never completed 60% of his passes, even in his best year. Locker is a RB playing QB.
