Jamarcus was a super nova when he was drafted.....

Just a couple of many scouting reports for the Walrus that said he was a sure fire cant miss QB that would be at the pro bowl level quickly....

Russell's problems aren't his abilities. He didn't put in the work or else he may have filled those expectations.

Don't be surprised if Russell turns up somewhere else down the line and has mild success. Once he grows up and realizes what he wasted.

Judging from what we have seen from Cam I don't share those same concerns as Russell

And FYI, there were people linking the scouting reports of a certain bust when people were saying Luck was the best prospect since <insert big name here>, because guess what? Many of them said the same thing about Russell.

As to Russell's comeback, after 2008 I thought he might have finally broken through. He actually had some nice games that year. He certainly still could make a comeback, but with the money he made, why would he need to? =P lol

that's not true, ffs. people compare the two because russell was the most recent superbust. like, huge bust. Not just small bust, not just bust (Carr) or disappointment (Clausen), but astronomically huge mistake.

it has nothing to do with russell's skin color. it's the fact he had "all the measurables," was being billed as super human in potential and he went kaboom once he got in the league.

before russell, leaf was used to illustrate this - and often still is, when the issue is character questions and not "omg he has amazing physical skills how could we go wrong"

People have compared Gabbert to Russell, too. tell me... if both gabbert and newton are being compared to him, why is it only because of skin color?

Basically. People wont compare him to Carr or Alex Smith or Tim Couch. Their agenda calls for them to not acknowledge those guys failing or to use them as the poster child for failure. Last year it was Vick, this year since he's playing well, its Vince and JaMarcus. These names are thrown out there for a reason. Guilt by association, fear mongering are usually tactics of people who are scared and frightened.

You can't compare him to Jimmy because it makes Cam look too good, and some people don't want to have anything to do with that.

Seriously though, all you have to do is listen to Cam talk for a few seconds and it quickly becomes obvious that he's much more motivated and much smarter than Russell.

was jamarcus a work out rat? was he guy that studies tape? and i never heard anyone compare gabbert to russell.

Yep that must be it....I'm scared and frightened so I compare Cam Newton to Vince Young....it cant be that VY and CAM have eerily similar stats on the field and almost identical skill sets.....nope that's not it.....

I don't see a legit comparison between Newton and Russell. I thought Russell was lazy and a little slow before he was even drafted. Newton, to me, seems to be the complete opposite of Russell.
