Jimmy Clausen is the main reason Cam Newton isn't a no brainer pick. But I seriously can't understand if comparing the two why people would rather keep Clausen. Lets say we ignore Clausens terrible year. It's new year a new draft and we get to pick one of these two players to be our franchise QB. Newton is still a better pick. No question

what does his size have to do with avoiding tackles? if you mean he was difficult to bring down because of his size, then you are not talking about eluding, you are talking about a different concept altogether.

eluding means basically to avoid capture. It doesn't specify how. So cam newton evades capture by using his size to his advantage. if you want to nit pick specific words, then i'll nit pick specific definitions.

Ok, that's fine... but don't sit here and say he DIDN'T make reads, or was only a ONE-READ QB in college, otherwise, his COLLEGE stats wouldn't be what they are.

Though I am moving from the Green Camp towards the Cam camp doesn't mean I think he is low risk. I think he has very high upside, and I actually think his Character or Dedication to winning is a positive.

However I do not think he had to make very tough read in college. I watched Auburn played a lot because I dislike the BCS and needed them to lose. He was so deadly with that QB sneak and Auburn was so good with the option that on passing plays they could easily freeze safties most of the times. Beacuse of majority of his passing reads were a lot simpler than the reads he will need to make in the NFL. They would always start those passes with the fake QB draw to get to safties. So it was very rare teams would scheme for his passing game and disguise coverages/show other pro elements because of the fact Auburn's running game was too deadly.

There are plenty of College QB's that racked up stats, won heimsans and couldn't even make it to the NFL, or come close to succeding as a QB. SO just you have great college stats doesn;t mean you can make NFL type reads.

the dude is already known for watching a lot of it. he might need someone to show what to look for in the pros, but that can be said of anyone coming out of college.

I'll wait for the combine to form an opinion, but SF having a QB guru for a coach and a need for a QB sitting at #7 is looking like a pretty viable trade partner. But like I said with Luck, if Newton is the real deal it'll be hard to pass him up.

I think it'll be hilarious if Newton comes in, sells more jerseys than any Panther QB ahead of him, gets us national recognition, and actually wins games. A lot of people in this thread will be bitter while the rest of us will be entertained enjoying the fun.

I really doubt that Panthers fans who don't want Cam would be bitter if he comes in and makes us a consistently good team. That's just a silly thing to say.

Nobody here that wanted Arellius Benn or Mardy Gilyard was bitter towards David Gettis after his big game last season.

it does specify how. "to evade adroitly" by the definition that you linked. adroitly does not mean "because you are big". just use the words you mean and do not get so defensive when someone does not understand you.

I really doubt that Panthers fans who don't want Cam would be bitter if he comes in and makes us a consistently good team. That's just a silly thing to say.

None of those guys are QBs, and none of those guys would be getting the glory or buzz that Cam would as QB. None of those guys are expected to speak to the media in the media room after every game. None of those guys get the "entitlement treatment" that we routinely throw on our QBs just for being QBs. I think its extremely naive and irrational to think there arent Panther fans who care more about the "image of the team" than the performance of it. I think its naive to think that some of those folks will embrace a Cam Newton in any capacity and would remain Panther fans. I expect us to lose some people and gain a lot of others.
