So is Tiger woods done or what?

Attaboy Tiger!

Woods tied Nicklaus for career PGA Tour victories at the tournament that Jack built. And the 14-time major champion suddenly looks equipped to resume his chase of another Nicklaus mark that is more significant - 18 major championships......

Nicklaus was gushing from the broadcast booth. ''The most unbelievable, gutsy shot I've ever seen,'' he said.

''Under the circumstances - the circumstances being Tiger has been struggling - it was either fish or cut bait,'' Nicklaus said later. ''He had one place to land the ball. He's playing a shot that if he leaves it short, he's going to leave himself again a very difficult shot. If he hits it long, he's going to probably lose the tournament. He lands the ball exactly where it has to land. Going in the hole was a bonus. But what a shot!

''I don't think under the circumstances I've ever seen a better shot.''

After playing 18 this morning caught the last 8 holes at the local English Pub/Sports bar. When Tiger holed the chip on 16 the whole place erupted in cheers. Awesome.

I haven't seen any of this tournament so I'm completely speculating... Tiger certainly put himself in a position to win, but having to knock a chip in from a crazy lie to win the tournament isn't a "typical" Tiger win...

Having said that though... Two wins so far this season bodes well for his "return".

Indeed, Tiger usually likes to win from "ahead" so to speak.

But today Tiger was 4 strokes behind heading into a Sunday. He simply crushed the field going 5 under today. The Leader Levin could have shot par today and still lost.

Tiger won today, end of story. Possibly he's found another way to win as well. I like it.

I've never questioned whether Tiger still had the ability, but whether he still had the mental fortitude to win like he used to... I'd say he does based on how poorly he's played at times the year, to turn it around and win says a lot.

Pretty amazing mental toughness from Tiger.

Think back to the whole caddie Steve Williams bull shyt and the fast start with Adam Scott. Scott has 1 top 10 finish in 2012.

Then that little squid instructor tell all book.

My how times change.

Should be an intersting golf season.

To Levin's credit, he was pretty automatic on putts 10 feet and under. The rest of his game was pretty bad yesterday though.

I was really looking forward to the Fowler/Woods pairing but Ricky completely fell apart.

I'm gonna give ESPN a little credit here too... which is very unusual... esp for me.

They did not really over hype Tiger's win on SC today... of course they talked about it more than if Levin or somebody else had won, but he did just tie Nicklaus for 2nd on the all time wins list, so that's pretty impressive.

Finally saw the shot he hit... wasn't quite as dramatic as I had thought on reading this thread last night...

On a scale of hardness, it was about a 9.5. You literally have to hit that shot PERFECT to get the result he got. Not too many pros, and few, few amateurs can hit that shot. I would skull that poo in the water about 75 times out of 100 and hit it fat/wiff it completely the other 25 times.

Having said that... Bill Haas' shot out of the water last season to extend the playoff and eventually win the tourney and the FedEx was about a 12 on a scale of 10. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

So here we go into make a move Saturday at the US Open with Tiger tied with Jimmy Furyk and David Toms.

This should be a lot of fun to watch. Mickelson barley survived to make the cut but McIlroy continues to play like crap.

Wonder if Rory will ever win a anothere major?

Here's hoping the greatest golfer of our generation continues to survive on this incredibly difficult course and returns to his customary spot at the top of Golf's most prestigious events.
