Steve Reed's "State of the Panthers"

Mr. Scot

I disagree he is getting old. He still has few years left. He may have lost some step, but he is still damn good. I think he should still stay, 'cause Gettis & LaFell are doing good from what we seen.

And I doubt Smitty isn't interested in being around a bunch of young players. I think it more about winning, not being around with kids & not mentoring them. Beside, didn't he work with Kenneth Moore when he was still here & Moore even said Smitty was mentoring him??

he's defying the laws of nature? LOL he really is superman.

Yea seriously, why the hell turn on a guy that has worn his heart on his sleeve and given his all his entire time as a panther. You have to respect what smitty has done for this time. I can understand the let's trade him while he still has value, but to bitch about how he performed one season compared to what he accomplished his entire career is just immature. He might not be the best teammate or mentor, but he sure as hell has been the best panther receiver to ever set foot on the field for this franchise. I mean cmon people dnt ignore the good and just complain abt the bad that's a negative outlook on life. If Smith wants out of carolina then send him to New England, he is almost guaranteed a shot at the SB there and Belicheat and Brady can make him seem like a superstar again.
this was a lot of the reason many said sticking with jake was a good idea.

know when it's time to bail. he isn't going to last forever. he isn't always going to be right for this team. dude still has some value to him. why not use it to help get an upgrade through a trade or two?

think forward and look at the roster forwhat guys can do today and esp. tomorrow, not what they have done in the past.

I agree, which in my post I stated that I understand the trade tlks from other posters, and if we do trade him I commented on trading him to the pats where he would be utilized properly...its just the fact of why bash someone for their play for 1 year and turning on them after everything they've done for the franchise, Smith wants a ring and honestly it would be 2-4 years before our team could possibly make a run for a championship, and we could possibly get our 2nd back from the pats for him if the CBA is done by then, which to look at it that way we traded smith for armanti smh dumb.

if we are going to pattern offense after the chargers.....does this mean we are going to pass the ball way to much and have a running game thats not with a crap?

Possibly.

I mean, I am going to be pissed if we throw more than we already do. I mean look at our run game over the past 3 years.....good gosh....why are we going to change now??????

There is absolutely no need to go around here like the Patriots, Colts, Saints, and Packers. It's time to run the ball and stop the run damnit.

Uh, Fuzz, how did that work out for the last regime?

Don't get me wrong, I neither want nor believe we'll become a WCO or run and shoot offense. But if we basically stick to the same offensive philosophy we've had for the past few years, we're going nowhere b/c teams will just dare us to beat them with the pass. Haven't we seen enough of that the past few seasons?

I would like to see some diversity in the passing like using a TE for more than just blocking and spreading the ball around more. I see us getting back to a similar offensive style we had under Henning, a more vertical passing attack complement by short-to-medium passing routes to keep the opposing defenses guessing. An efficient passing attack will complement and open things up for an already strong running game and make our offense more balance overall. That's what I'm hoping we'll see next season and beyond.

I also can't wait to see what our defense will look like under Rivera's watch.

Sorry dude, forgot the green type.

I have HATED our O for a while now, and really enjoy watching the Colts, Chargers, Saints, and Packers play football, and for that matter win the big one.

I hear you. I think most Panthers fans have felt this way our offense. It baffles me why Fox could never see what everyone else could about the offense. It's been below average to godawful the last few season. Last year, it was just putrid.

I could'nt think of a better word than putrid, perfect choice prowler. Our passing game was putrid. The run's ok if they keep 2 of the 3 RB's. I can't understand why fox did'nt stick with Moore until he got hurt. Jimmy was not ready, nor should he have been put in that spot. Why did'nt we have other option's beside's Jimmy or BSP? If Hurney and Fox thought Jimmy would be good when Moore had a rough spot, then when Moore went down, wonder what Hurney think's now? I hope the best for Jimmy, let's hope he can shake the stench of the 2010 season off him and still be confident in himself. Fox sure did'nt help Jimmy much by throwing him in the fire that way.

I'm glad "two league sources" has been deemed a reputable source of information, I can now start believing every report that is "according to two league sources" and not have to think about whether it's complete bs speculation...

Smith, who’ll turn 32 this summer, discussed the possibility of being traded with team owner Jerry Richardson this past season, according to two league sources.

...for the sarcasm-deficient: I'll believe he wants a trade when he says something to that effect or when the Panthers trade him.

remember the dropped balls.....fumbles?

You realize most of the time players will dropped balls. We seen the best drop balls often. He is struggling, but I think he will rebound back. Beside, maybe if we has better QBs, he wouldn't drop the balls much. Sometime bad QBs can do that.

he's defying the laws of nature? LOL he really is superman.

He has the Superman tattoo for a reason. :p

But honestly, I think he is just having a bad year with how the whole offense suck. I think he need another look at once our offense improve big time with a QB playing better.
