lockout is coming. even if only for a few weeks. can't imagine them getting it done now...

Well at least they both agreed to cancel the next pointless meeting.

That's a little bit of progress.

PS: Guys. This is still the off-season. They all have plans on how to go through the draft and the remaining of the off-season without a CBA in place. It won't matter until the first day of training camp is missed. That's when you should worry.

That's the Genius of Richardson's plan. He put together a group of guys that KNOW they need to practice who would probably do it on their own time without pay.

Richardson did not get rid of a lot bad contracts by cutting all the vets. The majority of the guys had contracts which expired this year or in the case of Moose for example weren't signed in 2010. He got rid of 3 contracts which would have still counted against the books in 2011. One was Delhomme, the second was Diggs who they signed to a three extension in January and then 3 months later we cut him when they changed philosophies and the third was Harris who was traded away. Go back and look at the contracts, Kemo, Lewis, Johnson, Hoover for example all had contracts which expired after the 2010 season. Other guys like Moose, Brayton and Vincent weren't signed for 2010. Of those guys the only one who was a bust was Johnson.

The old cutting bad contracts was a crock of poo many of you have readily bought and it doesn't hold water. The cuts were to save money under the theory if Fox couldn't win in 2009 with vets, Richardson was going to dump them since if we going to be mediocre anyway, he might as well save a ton of money in the process. The whole rebuilding with young guys was another crock to make Richardson's moves appear credible.

Richardson wasn't making Fox develop the rookies by cutting the vets. He knew he wasn't going to do that after 9 years of preferring veterans and largely shunning the rookies. If Richardson was serious about building with young guys he would have dumped Fox and brought in Rivera and started this process in 2010. And we could have really worked with Moore,Clausen and Pike and been much better off going into the 2011 season. It was all about saving money and Richardson's desire to force a lockout which is probably not going to happen at this point.

It was all about the money and if we had gone 7-9 like usual, it would have worked. Instead we go 2-14 and everyone believes Richadrson was cheap and dumped the season which was totally true.

But instead of admitting it, we go with saving money on bad contracts and rebuilding through the youth movement and people lapped it up like a cat does cream.

If I am wrong please detail the contracts which were bad which would have cost us money in 2011 other than the 3, I mentioned. And Diggs botched contract was a result of giving him an extension in January and cutting him 3 months later. As for Delhomme there was a provision in his contract where he could have been given him a payment equal to what we paid him anyway when we dumped him which would have accelerated his contract to be totally paid in 2010. And don't mention Kemo or Lewis because they had an option in thei contract which if not exercised (everyone knew we had no intention of exercising it) would make their contracts 1 year deals which would expire in 2010.

Yeah this is old news but I will stop rehashing it when people stop talking about the bad contracts and how much better off we are now. We would have been in the same position if we had kept the majority of the veterans. And give the lack of a terrific number 1 pick, I would have taken 5 or 6 victories and picked 12th to going 2-14 and picking 1st at this point.

So by your logic Richardson cut players in 2010 to pay them their same exact paychecks in 2011 just so he could save money on said contracts he has to pay anyway?

Not even close. Reread my post. The only money he saved in 2010 was the 2010 salaries of the veterans he cut, nothing more. And in Jake's case paid anyway. Those veterans would be gone in 2011 anyway. There was virtually no money that anyone of them would have carried over to 2011. The exception was Brayton who they resigned to a 3 year contract in 2010. After they cut all the other veterans. And look at the salaries he paid to guys we brought in replace those vets when we had no depth and the backups sucked and the usual injuries occurred.
