I originally thought this was a no brainer that he wouldn't be cut, but lately I'm not so sure.

Moore performed well last year at training camp and reports were that Clausen looked terrible. Can he make up that much ground in one year in a new offense? Without any hype, without the backing of former coaches, without the head start of a similar offense, can he impress enough to overcome his physical limitations to win the job over 1, 2 or 3 guys that are likely going to be more physically gifted than him?

I agree with you that if they just bring in Volek and keep Pike he should win the spot, but what does that say? Does that say we are really committed to winning? Does that say we want Luck next year? If they don't bring in a younger guy with ability who could win the job and keep it for 7 + years, they are setting themselves up for failure and this fan base up for a riot.

Whether Moore can do it depends on his injury. Clausen should certainly look a ton better, he's got a year's worth of experience with NFL speed now and he'll have an entire off-season of preparation. He's a gym/film rat, remember?

And remember, I'm of the firm opinion that he makes a big enough jump to at least be considered a decent QB this year. So to your second point, consider who you're asking the question of--if he starts that doesn't mean a repeat of 2010. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I was under the impression those guys needed another year to be UFA unless the CBA gets done differently, same with Kalil but I could be wrong.

I can't recall anyone saying seriously that he is a gym/film rate with any proof. He doesn't look like a gym rat one bit at 6'2" and 222 that's a little heavy if you ask me. He doesn't look like he has much muscle definition at all. Gym rats are like Brady Quinn who are jacked, not like JC who are marshmellowy.

My point about the repeat of 2010 was if they don't bring in any legit competition for him, but only bring in a vet to mentor him, basically handing him the job.

I personally don't know why you like Jimmy or why you think he will improve so drastically and overcome all things that are going against him but to each his own. I'm a fan of the best QB on the team and it's shocking that other people aren't as well.

I'm a fan of whoever the new staff thinks is the best option. I'm a fan of whoever the backup and the third stringer are. I'm a fan of the idea they know exponentially more than anyone here. I hope that Clausen gets it going. I'm a fan of the team.

I'm not married to Clausen, but I've always thought he would be a lot better next year. I was hoping we would get Luck and let him sit for a year while we showed the rest of the league that Clausen was worth a second, and then traded him.

This past season was just a perfect storm of bad things happening. It's almost a guarantee that Clausen gets better, because how could he get worse? Couple that with Shula's history, more experience at WR, a more QB friendly offense (I'm guessing that Chud actually cares about his QB's development, and look at how Quinn did when Chud was calling the plays), and hopefully, HOPEFULLY a healthy offensive line, and the same exact player should be posting ratings at least 20 points better.

To your comment about gym rats, being cut like Quinn is more about your diet than working out constantly. Most QBs aren't built like that because being built like that doesn't help your endurance, and they need that and strength. Do you look at Aaron Rodgers and think "Bodybuilder!"? Nah... And I've read several reports on Clausen that refer to him as a gym rat and film rat, yet I've never read a single one that suggests otherwise. You might have an argument that he has retention issues, but the work ethic is probably there.

Both those articles use it and don't really know the meaning. One says he watches film so he's a gym rat, the other says he went to a college football game on a Saturday so he's a gym rat.
