Didn't Gross defend Delhomme 'till the end? I dunno, I expect Clausens teammates to defend him. Lafell does it on twitter periodically too. I have no idea if Clausen is a gym rat, but to say he's going places is premature right now.

I agree with you that if they just bring in Volek and keep Pike he should win the spot, but what does that say? Does that say we are really committed to winning? Does that say we want Luck next year? If they don't bring in a younger guy with ability who could win the job and keep it for 7 + years, they are setting themselves up for failure and this fan base up for a riot.

...Not saying I'm a huge Volek fan but when he did play in Tennessee, he was impressive.. granted that was a few years back.. but he's serviceable.

I met LaFell and asked him pointedly about Clausen. He thinks Clausen will succeed, and said he was completely passionate about football.

I may be simple-minded, but the words people choose to describe others sometimes resonate with me. The fact that he used passionate rather than dedicated or "really wants it" struck me as interesting.

Frankly, I think that Football is all Clausen is about. And he's going to will himself into becoming an NFL starter.

If he can put 2010 behind him he'll be ok, but Ron's not going to hand him the starting QB spot, he'll have to earn it. I hope the best for Jimmy, hated that he had to be put in that spot, it's like Fox was just waiting for any reason to pull Matt and play Jimmy. Matt was going through a rough start, but he played decent at time's after that until the injury.

I would agree football is also Clausen is about. I just am not quite sure he will ultimately have what it takes to succeed here.

I do not question Clausen's dedication. I do not think he is "Ryan Leaf" or anything like that. I just don't know if he has it that will take him to the next level. I guess we'll see in camp...

there is just nothing to suggest Clausen can beat out a Moore caliber QB in a camp battle. Rivera isn't a lameduck coach.....he will be allowed to bring in competition and QBs. He isn't going to be handcuffed w/ the type roster Fox was.

Unless a new HC inherits a Superbowl QB......they all go out and get their own QBs instead of starting leftovers within 2 years. Recent history proves that.

Fox isn't loyal to everyone. He never showed any loyalty w/ Moore at any point. Moore for whatever reason wasn't a "Fox guy".

like I said, I am fine w/ Moore not being here. My point is only a new HC isn't going to be handcuffed to Clausen/Pike. Neither of those fit Fox and neither appear to fit what Rivera wants to do. Within 2 years, I don't expect Moore, Clausen or Pike to be starting for Carolina.

All this pro-Clausen talk is seriously baffling to me. Go compare his stats to David Carr's rookie year stats. They are unsurprisingly similar.

We should have never drafted Clausen. We needed a receiver to compliment Smitty as he ages out, and it created pressure on Moore that affected his play.

Not only that, but he's shown nothing that he has the talent or skill to in his play to be a starter in the pros. You can "will" all you want. If you don't have the tools to succeed, you won't. Period.

I don't see Moore here and definitely Pike has got to go. Pike's weak arm reminds me of WNFL QB's arm. (Forgot what that league was called but if Pike had man boobs, he could've been a top signal caller in that league.)

Every QB that has started more than 5 games under Fox has a winning record here.......except Jimmy. You gotta do 1 thing....stay in the pocket and get it to Smitty when time to throw. Fox's flawed system will at least allow a QB to survive pending he can handle basics of the offense.

I still think it is funny that people want to use 4-5 quarters of bad play by Moore as solid proof that Clausen was in an unwinnable scenario. Moore just sucked and missed easy shots and made bad throws in a couple quarters. Clausen was simply one of the worst rookie QBs that has seen the field in sometime.

1. Professional athletes and those that make their living working with professional athletes are more likely to know what a gym rat is than some guy on a message board.

2. Beason and Gross could have talked about any number of things, they each made it clear that Jimmy was going places. Go find me similar quotes they made about a player who didn't.

3. Pedigree? Go look at the money Clausen's dad spent on giving him one. Look up the meaning of the word first.

Quit hating on the kid so much. And go meet him in person before you call him chubby. Maybe you should call him that in person, but I want to be there to see his reaction.

Moore struggled because teams put 9 men in the box and forced Moore to be a contemporary QB, which he is not. Moore is a hand-it-off-and-then,-once-in-a-while-pass-to-catch-defenders-off-guard type of QB. So when the run game struggled.....

that is what I think. We don't keep Moore. 2 new QBs come in w/ Pike going to practice squad. Jimmy remains a year at the #2 or #3 spot as a backup. He likely will be the popular backup that fans want to see in bad times.....but simply doesn't have what it takes to be a starter in the league.

Moore imo is a backup. Teams need that. We don't need a bunch of them. Clausen makes the most sense to have fill that role.
