Draft day plunge for Ryan Mallett?

I know walterfootball writer thinks he is a idiot and will be Ryan Leaf 2.0.

They say watch out for his wonderlic score.

they're not the only one thats been saying that. i've been thinking that for a pretty long time. fortunately everyone is seeing through it. guy is big and has a big arm. that is what made ryan leaf and jamarcus russell so highly rated. people mistakingly think that if you have "all the physical tools", esp. the rest can be coached. huge mistake. if the intangibles and intelligence aren't there, you got to run.

This is the same draft site that was raving about Jimmy Clausen's elite football IQ and decision making ability, so I don't know what to believe anymore. I definitely agree that Mallet is a sitting duck in the pocket though. We don't need another sack machine, unless he plays on defense and is the sacker instead of the sackee.
they've seen the light with clausen and how they rate players.
I made a huge mistake when I really underestimated how important it is not to be a loser in college. If you're a winner as a quarterback, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll succeed in the NFL. However, if you can't win, I think it says something about your attitude. And I'm not just referring to wins and losses. Clausen is not a leader; conversely, he seems to have this Matt Leinart-esque sense of entitlement.
they make a good point about being winners and being a leader.

btw, still hoping that clausen can pull it off and the new coaching staff can turn things around, but i'm not holding my breath.

That's pretty much how I feel about Pat Devlin, and a little about that Pumpernickel guy. I'd be happy if we spent our comp pick or 4th on them. Wanna keep the #65 for a CB/DT/OL though.

About the only QB I would try to draft later is Andy Dalton. He seems like one of those guys who could make it if you handle him right.

Joe Flacco v2.0 in the fourth? Yes please!

NO! Why would you want a QB who isn't clutch? Flacco = choke

Everyone is calling Mallett dumb, but you have to be smart enough to read SEC defenses and have quick decision making...

And who cares about the wonderlic, Terry Bradshaw was a good QB and everyone thought he was dumb.

And for all of his so called "character issues" has Mallett ever gotten into any trouble, and has it cost him playing time?

I agree. With Clausen or Pike already here unless folks thought he would be a distinct upgrade, it wouldn't make sense to draft him in the third.

Not that I dont agree with you but we have a new head coach so IMO no one is safe... Well maybe Edwards but thats the only player. I think the QB situation could go many ways and it just depends on how much Riviera likes and thinks about them.
