Draft day plunge for Ryan Mallett?

See, this is the wisdom of the Armanti Edwards pick. Without a second, we won't be able to grab a QB who was supposed to go in the first two years in a row.

Wisdom shows that we should never grab a QB in the 2nd who was supposed to go in the first... ever again

Man if anything about Mallett's character concerns are true I don't want to touch him in any round of this draft. =|

edit: as a note, and take this for the rumor it is, some have claimed Mallett is addicted to coke, has had falling outs with coaches, and he's supposedly not got very high football smarts. but, he is a leader on the field at least, and god can he make some amazing throws.

if that above stuff wasn't true then yeah, I'd take him in the third. He's like the antithesis of Clausen... he couldn't scramble away from pressure if he wanted to, so he's have to get the ball out!

Great arm and talent....Rumors are very much prevelant and I have heard scouts interviewed saying I think his background will be concerning to teams..ALARMS!! not even in the 7th....Matt Jones was a QB at Arkansas..Coke I think is an Arkansas tradition! -allegedly

I was going to make the Matt Jones comparison. Although it is not fair to judge character based on a uniform, there are things that you have to consider:

1. How big of an issue is character in the recruiting process at Arkansas?

2. Every school has a culture that surrounds the football program. I played in college at 2 schools, and the cultures were vastly different. Could the coke use (rumored) be characteristic of the culture at Arkansas?

Also a note on Mallet from Walterfootball

Mallett has major red flags. In addition to these "off-field concerns," he's a moron who may score single digits on his Wonderlic (even if they give him five points for spelling his name correctly). His release is painfully slow (think Byron Leftwich). He has no mobility. And he has the same sense of entitlement as Matt Leinart and Jimmy Clausen

I know 'walter' isn't gospel, but its the kind of stuff that is getting out there about Mallet.

Devlin in the fourth would be interesting, but I doubt it happens.

This is the same draft site that was raving about Jimmy Clausen's elite football IQ and decision making ability, so I don't know what to believe anymore. I definitely agree that Mallet is a sitting duck in the pocket though. We don't need another sack machine, unless he plays on defense and is the sacker instead of the sackee.
