Draft day plunge for Ryan Mallett?

Man if anything about Mallett's character concerns are true I don't want to touch him in any round of this draft. =|

edit: as a note, and take this for the rumor it is, some have claimed Mallett is addicted to coke, has had falling outs with coaches, and he's supposedly not got very high football smarts. but, he is a leader on the field at least, and god can he make some amazing throws.

if that above stuff wasn't true then yeah, I'd take him in the third. He's like the antithesis of Clausen... he couldn't scramble away from pressure if he wanted to, so he's have to get the ball out!

I just can't figure out Mallett. When you see him play and look at his stats, he looks like an NFL QB. And yet, nearly every draft outlet says that they won't touch him because of off the field issues. Never an explanation of what issues he "has." But with this much concensus, it is hard to think there is not something to these reports.

I know walterfootball writer thinks he is a idiot and will be Ryan Leaf 2.0.

They say watch out for his wonderlic score.

It does seem that people are starting to come forward with his perceived issues. If they are true (Cokehead, Low Football IQ) its a shame that such a talent may go to waste.

Mallet has talent, but I don't see us investing more picks on QB's this year unless another Clausen situation arises where someone is sitting out there that's so much higher on our board than anyone else, that we take them out of principal.

I agree. With Clausen or Pike already here unless folks thought he would be a distinct upgrade, it wouldn't make sense to draft him in the third.

JOAT.... What is a Pat Devlin?

Carolina Panthers: Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware

Even if he brings in Billy Volek, Ron Rivera may want to draft a young signal-caller. I couldn't really blame him after watching Jimmy Clausen struggle last year. Besides, Pat Devlin is way too good to pass up this late.

I really liked what I saw out of Devlin in two playoff games against New Hampshire and Eastern Washington. He has a good arm and was pretty accurate with his throws. He also has a quick release. The big issue is that he holds on to the football too long, but that's something that can be fixed with proper coaching.

Pick change; previously Orlando Franklin, G

Can you say Todd Marinovich?

See, this is the wisdom of the Armanti Edwards pick. Without a second, we won't be able to grab a QB who was supposed to go in the first two years in a row.

And Mallett can throw the ball hard, but he has some amazing receivers too. A lot of QBs would look good under center in Arkansas.
