Anyone else feel PP would be "safest" pick?

I wish there were a safe pick, and if there is I don't know it. But one thing we know is we need guy's that can step in and make play's ASAP. Beason did it, was it a fluke..no way. In the thread about Rodgers and Davis in the 2005 draft, the first pick(Alex Smith) was a BUST of the highest magnitude. But Thomas Davis has been very solid, great even until the injury. But who do we get in the 4th round of that draft...Lafors. Jstew made some big play's his rookie year too. That's the kind of player we need, if it's Cam, Fairley, Green, Bowers, whoever it is thay need to be able to contribute early and often! I don't see Rivera hold young talent back like our FORMER staff did.(Dwill)

Find it ironic about the "safe pick", During senior bowl week they had on the Falcons GM and their decision to not to take "safe plug and play defensive pick". Instead they picked Matt Ryan. Always taking the "safe" pick will probably never get a Super Bowl WIN (but anything is possible). Bucs also did it with Freeman, they said that was their guy NO MATTER what draft pick they had.He quietly had a pretty good season (incase no one noticed).

I just hope the same folks that are hell bent on taking Fairly (or another " safe" pick) do not come when we get knocked out of playoffs (if we even make it) and say:

"If we only had a better QB...."

If only had a WR on the opposite side of Smitty..."

You have got to grab talent when it's there, a piece of the puzzle. We need a DT, guess what we ranked 32 in the league in offense, we some offense TOO.

I'm a Green fan, he has over achieved from high to college, over say a Fairly (who in essence had a very good bowl, but that's about it). The other season are underwhelming, imo.

And for the ppl that said we made playoffs (if we do), was because we took the "safe" pick. However, that really can't be said, because a pick in the later round or a free agent could have done the same (if not more) no one really knows.

Like the fan that said, if it wasn't for defense the Pack would have lost. Really, they seemed to move the ball pretty well (they did score 3 other TDs) on that awesome defense. No reason to think that instead of the running they started to do (to eat the clock), they just would have kept doing what they already doing and got into filed goal range (at the least). No one really can say, either way.

We are never going to pay for an Andre Johnson or Calvin Johnson or even another Smitty on the free agent market. We should grab one that has that type of potential while one we can. Have to take some chances in life to succeed.

Of course with wal-MARTY, we will most likely take Fairley and his good bowl game...

I thought Landry was a big hitting S, who inadvertently replaced Sean Taylor...another high 1st round DB pick by the Skins. One can argue that a CB is even more valuable than a S, if it's a Sanders type who shuts down half of the field...especially if he can tackle. That makes life a whole lot easier, as you can overload the other side and put a serious hurtin on the passing game.

Personally, I like Julio Jones better than Green.

Did Smitty say he didn't want to traded and I missed it? I haven't heard one way or the other.

Smitty was already here (on the team). And I guess he will be here for the next 20 years, will (been) never get hurt and miss games, never lose a step, just never ever leave....

Not sure how many times someone posted "if we only had another WR opposite of Smitty".

"Name 1 team that pays top money to two receivers."

Which is the WHOLE point of DRAFTING one...that has that kind of potential. If none of those things that never ever happen in million years... did happen, this team still would not pay top money to bring in any top WR. We have to hope we already have one on the team...

i'd be fine with drafting one. I just dont understand what you were bitching about. paying for two top end receivers would be stupid, that's why the FO wont do it.

I think Fairley is about as safe a pick as there is in this draft class, the position he plays is one of the easiest to translate to the NFL and the kid has been dominating in the SEC, so he's been dominating against elite competition.

Easy transition? Since when?

DT's often take a long time to transition to the NFL, the ones that do well in their rookie years are ones that are obviously smart, I'm not sure I'll put Fairley's intelligence up with Ngata for example. Honestly, I think people are just getting too excited over Suh's success. Recent history has shown that the opposite is true. DT's have to make very good quick decisions and rookies often get lost in the process.

I agree with the OP btw, I think PP is the safe pick, at least in terms of which player is the most likely to strive at their position. I really do think he's the next top flight corner in the draft - he has all the tools, physically and mentally to succeed. The only 'problem' that I've read is that he's a corner. Look guys, there;s a first time for everything. If a punter and a kicker can go in the first round, the best corner prospect in a decade can go 1st overall.

Yes I also see Peterson as the best. He looked average a couple games? Much better than looking like he didn't give a poo even for one game. Peterson if anything is pretty consistent. He isn't a one year wonder and he has rarely not started a game. He was on the field for 28 straight games. He seems like the best choice because there is a future in Peterson, where as Fairly that is a big ?.
